Windows 11’s August Patch Tuesday update brings several important changes, and I break down the biggest ones

Microsoft will release the Windows 11 August 2026 Security Update on August 11, 2026, featuring new functionalities and enhancements. Key additions include Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security, the ability to uninstall AI models from Copilot+ PCs, new touchpad gestures, voice isolation for Voice Access, Fluid Dictation for Voice Typing, and a redesigned Start menu with parental controls notice. I would only play Halo: Campaign Evolved on handheld with upscaling

Playing Halo: Campaign Evolved without upscaling yields visually appealing graphics but poor performance, as players cannot fully disable upscaling. The TSR setting averages 31 fps with lows of 25.6 fps, while FSR Medium averages 43 fps with lows around 34 fps, making it the optimal choice for smoother gameplay. FSR Low averages 49 fps but sacrifices visual clarity. Halo: Campaign Evolved includes a very low graphical mode exclusive to the ROG Xbox Ally X, which improves performance. The difference between low and ultra graphics settings is minimal, and disabling motion blur is recommended for better experience.

Sound Recorder, Camera, and Windows Studio Effects

Windows 11 includes a suite of audio and video recording applications: Sound Recorder, Camera, and Windows Studio Effects. The Sound Recorder app allows audio capture using PC microphones, featuring a navigation pane, recording area, and playback controls. Users can customize audio input in the Settings app under System > Sound, selecting microphones and adjusting quality formats like “CD quality” or “Studio quality.” Within the Sound Recorder app, users can change the recording format (default is AAC) to MP3, WMA, FLAC, or WAV and set audio quality to Best, High, or Medium. To record audio, users click the red “Start recording” button, with options to stop, pause, or mark significant moments using keyboard shortcuts. Recordings can be played back, managed, shared, renamed, or deleted through the app's interface. Users can also import compatible audio files into Sound Recorder. The Camera app allows users to take photos, record videos, and scan items using the PC's webcam, with an interface similar to smartphone camera apps. Users can customize camera settings in the Settings app under Bluetooth > Cameras, adjusting brightness, contrast, and resolution. Phocus Mobile has launched on Android, allowing users to process, view, and export RAW photographs from smartphones and tablets.
