Samsung's One UI 7 update, based on Android 15, introduces a new "Filter notifications" feature that allows users to categorize non-urgent alerts into groups within the notification panel. This feature includes three toggles: 1. Old Notifications: Filters out outdated app notifications. 2. Background Notifications: Filters notifications from apps running in the background. 3. Minimized Notifications: Allows users to manually minimize certain alerts. Grouped notifications will still be visible but organized under a "More notifications" card. The stable version of One UI 7 is expected to be released between January and February of the following year.

Microsoft has released the KB5046617 Patch Tuesday update for Windows 11, elevating the OS to Build 26100.2314 for users on the 24H2 version. This update allows users to reprogram the Copilot key on compatible keyboards to launch any application within a signed MSIX package. It includes all improvements from the previous KB5044384 preview update and addresses several issues, such as fixing an error in Task Manager, restoring access to the Dev Drive for WSL, and resolving connectivity problems related to duplicate DHCP options. A known issue for Arm device users playing Roblox persists, with a workaround available. Users can install the update via Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog. Additional updates in Build 26100.2161 include new notification settings, a redesigned Wi-Fi password dialog, a new Narrator shortcut, renaming of the "All apps" section in the Start menu, and fixes for web sign-in issues and the Copilot key settings. Improvements have also been made to the Windows Disk Cleanup app.

On October 22, 2024, Microsoft released a non-security update for Windows 11 version 23H2, identified as KB5044380, which includes enhancements for user experience but also caused OpenSSH connectivity issues. After installing the update, some users reported that the OpenSSH service fails to start, preventing SSH connections, and requires manual intervention to run the sshd.exe process. This issue affects a wide range of users, though Microsoft stated the number of impacted devices is "limited." A workaround involves adjusting permissions on specific directories using PowerShell commands. Microsoft is investigating the issue and plans to provide a resolution in a future update. Additionally, Windows 11 version 24H2 has its own problems, including inaccuracies in Task Manager and a paused rollout of a new controller keyboard.

Attackers are exploiting a significant number of vulnerabilities disclosed by Microsoft in its August security update, with six out of 90 vulnerabilities being a primary concern for system administrators. Four of these vulnerabilities were known prior to the announcement and are categorized as zero-days, including CVE-2024-38202, an unpatched elevation of privilege (EoP) vulnerability in the Windows Update Stack. This flaw allows an attacker with basic user privileges to potentially reintroduce mitigated vulnerabilities or bypass features of Virtualization Based Security (VBS). Seven vulnerabilities from the update are rated as critical, while the remaining 79 CVEs are deemed "Important" or of medium severity. Two of the actively exploited vulnerabilities facilitate remote code execution (RCE): CVE-2024-38189 affects Microsoft Project, allowing arbitrary code execution if a user opens a malicious file, and CVE-2024-38178 involves a memory corruption issue in the Windows Scripting Engine, requiring user interaction. Additionally, three other zero-days under active exploitation (CVE-2024-38106, CVE-2024-38107, and CVE-2024-38193) enable privilege elevation to system admin status, with CVE-2024-38106 being particularly concerning due to its presence in the Windows Kernel. The final zero-day, CVE-2024-38213, allows attackers to bypass Windows Mark of the Web security protections, facilitating the infiltration of malicious files and web content into enterprise environments.
