How to Turn Off McAfee

To shut down the Advanced Firewall, open the McAfee app, select Advanced Firewall, and turn it off. Scheduled scans can be stopped by navigating to Scheduled Scans in the McAfee app and using the Turn off control. To turn off Secure VPN, open the app, find the Secure VPN tile, and toggle it off. For disabling McAfee WebAdvisor in browsers, users should manage extensions in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. To stop notifications and alerts, users can adjust settings in Windows and various browsers. Uninstalling McAfee involves navigating through the device's settings, and to stop renewal billing, users must log in to their McAfee account and disable auto-renewal. Users should be aware of older and managed-device guides and how to stop notifications on mobile devices. Disabling features does not uninstall McAfee, and turning off auto-renewal does not remove the application from the device.

Gemini app’s latest UI change makes it easier to set up thinking levels, control notifications

Google is updating its Gemini app to improve user experience with a refined interface and new notification controls. The model picker dropdown now only includes the “Extended Thinking” option, removing the redundant “Standard” option. Users can manage notifications for categories such as Daily Brief, Scheduled actions, Responses, and Product updates and tips, with toggles enabled by default. Gemini Spark is also being redesigned with a top navigation bar for better task management and a search icon replacing the previous menu button. The rollout of these updates may vary by device.

How to Stop McAfee from Running on Windows

McAfee offers features such as file scanning, network traffic filtering, VPN services, and browser warnings to protect users. To prevent McAfee startup helpers from opening, users can manage startup settings in Windows. To completely remove McAfee, users should uninstall it through Settings or Control Panel and follow the prompts. If remnants remain, the MCPR tool can be used for complete removal. Microsoft Defender will reactivate automatically after McAfee is uninstalled.

New TrickMo Variant: Device Take Over malware targeting Banking, Fintech, Wallet & Auth apps

In early 2026, a new variant of the TrickMo Android banking trojan was identified, actively targeting banking and wallet users in France, Italy, and Austria. This variant has replaced its predecessor in ongoing campaigns and has transitioned its command-and-control traffic to The Open Network (TON). Key features of the new TrickMo variant include: - The primary command-and-control channel now operates over TON, utilizing .adnl endpoints through an embedded local TON proxy. - It employs a runtime-loaded APK (dex.module) with enhanced functionalities, including reconnaissance, SSH tunneling, and SOCKS5 proxying, allowing infected devices to act as network pivots. - TrickMo is classified as Device Take Over (DTO) malware, targeting banking, fintech, wallet, and authenticator applications on Android devices. - Operators gain control over infected devices through accessibility-service permissions, enabling capabilities such as credential phishing, keylogging, screen recording, remote control, and SMS interception. The new variant features a modular architecture with a host APK functioning as a launcher and persistence layer, while offensive capabilities are delivered through the dynamically loaded dex.module. Significant enhancements include network reconnaissance commands (curl, dnslookup, ping, telnet, traceroute) and socket-level tunneling via an embedded SSH client. Indicators of compromise include specific SHA-256 hashes and package names associated with TrickMo dropper applications and host applications. The malware retains unused permissions for NFC capabilities, suggesting a strategic approach to device filtering.
