Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5060 is set to release on May 19 with a starting price of 9. It features 8GB of video memory, which may be insufficient for demanding games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle that require at least 12GB of VRAM. Preliminary testing at 1080p showed the RTX 5060 Ti performing well in five titles, often meeting or exceeding Nvidia's performance claims, particularly within optimized conditions for Nvidia GPUs. The card benefits from DLSS 4, enabling impressive frame rates even at 1440p, with frame rates exceeding 200 FPS in demanding scenarios. Texture pool sizes during tests were around 1.5GB, indicating effective use of neural rendering techniques. However, Cyberpunk 2077's benchmarking tool did not accurately reflect performance due to pre-release drivers. Users may face challenges with DLSS override settings in the Nvidia app, requiring manual adjustments for optimal performance. Despite these hurdles, the RTX 5060 shows promise for a smooth gaming experience, though concerns about the adequacy of its 8GB VRAM remain.

Microsoft's CEO of AI, Mustafa Suleyman, outlined the company's strategy for AI development, focusing on adapting its Copilot digital assistant to consumer needs. Despite having a large inventory of Nvidia GPUs, Microsoft is not using them for the most advanced AI models, opting instead for a measured approach that allows for lower costs and targeted solutions. The company collaborates with organizations like OpenAI and CoreWeave to enhance products such as Bing and Windows. A new feature called "memory" will be added to Copilot, allowing it to retain user information for personalized interactions. Microsoft has invested .75 billion in OpenAI, but in July 2024, it classified OpenAI as a competitor. OpenAI announced a collaboration with Oracle on the Stargate project, moving away from exclusive reliance on Microsoft Azure, although Microsoft stated that OpenAI remains committed to Azure. Suleyman emphasized the importance of developing internal AI capabilities and maintaining a long-term partnership with OpenAI through at least 2030.

Windows 11 is experiencing significant issues for users with Nvidia GPUs, particularly those in the Windows Insider program on the Canary channel, who are facing difficulties launching applications. The problem is linked to an incompatibility with DirectX 9, resulting in crashes related to D3D9 DLL files. This affects various software, including applications, games, PowerPoint, web browsers, and certain websites. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue in the known problems list for Canary Channel build 27808, but many users still encounter disruptions. Some users have found temporary solutions by replacing the problematic D3D9 DLL files in the System32 and SysWOW64 folders with versions from previous builds, requiring administrative rights and disabling their Nvidia GPU via Device Manager. The issue appears to be limited to Windows Insider participants using Canary builds, and while Microsoft hasn't explicitly blamed Nvidia GPUs, the evidence suggests a predominant impact on these users.
