Microsoft is finally letting you skip updates during Windows 11 setup

Microsoft is introducing changes to the Windows 11 Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE) by allowing users to click “Update Later” during setup to bypass post-installation updates. This aims to streamline the installation process and enable quicker access to desktops. The feature is currently being rolled out, but the timeline for widespread availability is uncertain. Users should be cautious, as skipping updates may expose their PCs to security vulnerabilities until they manually install the updates.

Windows 11 KB5067112 Adds “Personalized Offers” to OOBE Setup Screen

Microsoft released a non-security update, KB5067112, for Windows 11, version 23H2, upgrading systems to Build 22621.6133. Users can update via Settings or download from the Microsoft Update Catalog. The update improves the touch keyboard functionality, ensuring key presses are registered after waking from sleep. It also enhances networking by fixing issues with external virtual switches that could lose NIC bindings after a host restart. A new feature, Personalized Offers, is introduced during device setup and is accessible in the Settings menu. Additionally, the update resolves a critical disk communication issue affecting Azure Stack Hub and Azure Local clusters, improving reliability and performance.

Microsoft confirms Windows 11 to require Microsoft account, Internet during OOBE (tested)

Microsoft has announced the discontinuation of methods that allowed users to bypass the Microsoft account requirement during the Out-Of-Box Experience (OOBE) setup for Windows 11. This change was confirmed in a blog post on October 6. In recent tests with Windows 11 Build 26120.6772, users are now required to sign in with a Microsoft account during the OOBE setup, as traditional workarounds have become ineffective. Commands like oobebypassnro and start ms-cxh:localonly no longer work, and attempts to use older methods resulted in a loop back to the login prompt. Microsoft believes that a device is not fully configured without a Microsoft account, stating that using a local account may lead to a suboptimal setup. Users can create a local account after reaching the desktop, removing the need for the Microsoft account in future sessions. The updated requirements are expected to be included in future Windows 11 ISOs within the next two to three months.
