Paint update begins rolling out to Windows Insiders

An update for Paint, version 11.2502.121.0, is being rolled out to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels of Windows 11, featuring enhancements to the Cocreator side panel for a more intuitive user experience. Users can access Cocreator through the Copilot menu to generate artwork based on their input using a mouse or pen. The update includes familiar tools like the Creativity slider and Select style dropdown, as well as a new Try again button for generating alternative image versions. Microsoft Weekly: one dead Insider Channel, a big drop of Windows updates, and more

November 2024's Patch Tuesday updates have been released for Windows 11 and Windows 10, including KB5046617 and KB5046633 for Windows 11, and KB5046613, KB5046615, KB5046612, and KB5046665 for Windows 10. These updates address security vulnerabilities and resolve app crashes on Windows 10 and Task Manager issues on Windows 11. Microsoft has introduced new group policies to prevent auto-upgrades for Windows Server 2022 and 2019. Both Windows 10 and 11 will see a reduction in updates starting December 2024. Official Windows 11 ISO files for ARM devices have been released. Paint is the latest app to further ruin Windows 11’s controversial context menus

Microsoft introduced a redesigned context menu with Windows 11 three years ago to enhance user experience by bringing commonly used file actions closer to the cursor. However, the context menu has become cluttered with redundant options, including new "Edit with" choices integrated into the main menu instead of expanding the "Open with" submenu. The latest update for Paint, announced on November 7 for Windows Insiders, added an "Edit with Paint" option for image files, while users can remove this option by modifying the Windows Registry. The new Paint version also includes features like generative fill and generative erase.

KB5041869: Microsoft restores simplified Windows 11 system tray after removing it

Microsoft has released a new Beta Channel build for Windows Insiders, designated as build 22635.4010 under KB5041869. This update restores the simplified system tray, which features a shortened date and time format and omits the notification bell icon. Users can toggle off the jump lists feature for taskbar apps. Fixes include resolving an issue with the Shift key causing new app instances to open and addressing a display issue in the Task Manager's GPU section in dark mode. Known issues include explorer.exe crashes when closing apps from the taskbar and loss of keyboard focus in File Explorer.
