‘Shonen run ‘n’ gun’ game Tiebreakers announced for PC

Tiecorp Studio has announced a new game called Tiebreakers, set to launch on PC via Steam, with the release date yet to be revealed. The game features 2D shooting action combined with sports elements, where players control a group of heroes known as the Tiebreakers, including the protagonist Li Sha, who uses sports-themed projectiles. Players will face enemies called "Red Cards" in boss fights, following rules that require scoring seven points with a two-point lead to win. The game emphasizes themes of perseverance and teamwork. Development began seven years ago as a side project by Tom Kurcz and Alexandre Re, with contributions from freelance artists. Key features include intense boss fights, innovative mechanics, a shonen story, and dynamic gameplay. An announcement trailer and screenshots are available for viewing.

Many games from The Game Awards are now on sale

Amazon is holding a sale on several acclaimed titles following The Game Awards on December 11th. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which won nine awards including game of the year, is available for .99, its lowest price to date. Silent Hill f, set in 1960s Japan, is priced at .99 for Prime members. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is available for .97, approximately 30% off the regular price. Split Fiction is available for both Nintendo Switch 2 and PS5 for .99.

Shovel Knight dev’s next game doesn’t have a single parry, pulling from Castlevania and Bloodborne instead of Sekiro: ‘Every game has a parry now … even Doom has Dark Souls stuff in it’

The rise of parry mechanics has expanded from character action games and spectacle fighters to various genres, including roguelikes, horror games, JRPGs, and first-person shooters, particularly in the Soulslike genre after the success of Sekiro. Yacht Club Games is developing an adventure game called Mina the Hollower, inspired by classic Castlevania and Zelda games, aiming to evoke retro gaming while incorporating modern influences. Co-founder Sean Velasco noted the game's nods to Bloodborne in its health management system and pacing. He described the exchange of gameplay ideas among developers as a "great conversation," leading to the convergence of game mechanics. The release date for Mina the Hollower is not yet determined, but it can be added to wishlists on Steam.
