3 months after launch, Riot announces League of Legends Classic will be killed in January: ‘most have gone back to other parts of League’

Riot Games launched League of Legends Classic to evoke nostalgia by reverting to a version of the game prior to 2013, including an older Summoner's Rift map and faster introduction of "new" old champions. Despite this, player interest waned, leading to the mode being taken offline in January 2027, six months after its launch. Riot plans to revisit the concept as an event mode with modifications and has acknowledged mixed player responses. Former esports competitor Alex 'Xpecial' Chu noted that the idea of "classic" varies among players, suggesting that the nostalgia might not resonate as strongly as it does in other games like World of Warcraft or Runescape, which foster deeper community engagement.

Star Wars Galactic Racer’s devs tested its roguelite progression system by turning it into a board game

Kieran Crimmins, the creative director at Fuse Games, emphasized the importance of tactile experience in game design, leading to the creation of a board game prototype for Star Wars Galactic Racer to explore gameplay mechanics. Matt Webster, the CEO of Fuse Games, noted that while modern engines are capable, traditional prototyping can be faster for capturing ideas. The board game prototype focused on simulating the progression system, where players earn rewards based on race performance, enhancing vehicle stats and acquiring parts. This system draws inspiration from roguelite games, providing continuity and growth in gameplay. Crimmins highlighted the efficiency of board game prototyping for rapid validation of emotional responses, allowing for quick adjustments using simple materials. The approach reflects a trend in game development towards flexibility and creativity in early design stages.

In Torrent, a city with approximately 85,000 residents, severe flooding has caused streets to be covered in mud, damaging several vehicles and trapping 15 individuals in a fast-food restaurant, who were rescued by emergency services. Residents expressed frustration over the lack of engineering measures to prevent such flooding and raised concerns about the delayed warning from the Spanish emergency alert system, ES-Alert, which was issued after significant flooding had already occurred. The flooding followed torrential rains, with nearly 96 liters of rainfall recorded, including 71 liters in just 30 minutes. The Barranco del Poyo ravine and nearby town of Paiporta were also affected, although the stream did not overflow. Emergency crews are working to clear damaged roads and vehicles.

Valorant player claims to have inherited hardware ban through secondhand CPU, Riot anticheat boss disputes parts of story

A user on the PCBaumeister subreddit shared that they purchased a secondhand CPU, which was linked to a prior owner's ban from the game Valorant. Riot Games stated that hardware bans last four months and do not transfer to new components in a different system. Phillip Koskinas from Riot's anti-cheat division could not find any support ticket related to the user's claims, indicating that the scenario might be unlikely. The user bought the CPU on September 21, while the original owner's ban was recorded on August 12, raising questions about the validity of the claims. The incident has sparked discussions about the possibility of inheriting hardware bans and the frustrations players face when locked out of games. Miscommunication may have contributed to the situation, highlighting potential inconsistencies in support responses from Riot Games.
