Microsoft has warned users about a bug related to the creation of Windows 11 installer media that may prevent future security updates for new PC installations. The issue affects installations using media created with the October and November 2024 security updates, specifically when the media is made between October 8, 2024, and November 12, 2024. Systems that received these updates via Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog are not impacted. To resolve the issue, users must rebuild their Windows 11 media installers to include the December 2024 patch update and perform a fresh installation. Additionally, the Windows 11 24H2 update has introduced other bugs, including problems with certain audio devices, launching Outlook with outdated Google Workspace Sync, and compatibility issues with some Ubisoft games.

Microsoft has begun rolling out a hot patch update for security enhancements in Windows 11 Enterprise 24H2 and Microsoft 365 Preview Builds. This update allows users to download and install security patches via Windows Updates without needing to reboot their devices. Hotpatch updates provide a complete set of OS security patches but do not include additional features. They enable immediate activation of patches upon installation, improving security protection speed. However, hotpatching is limited to security patches, and Cumulative Updates will still require a system restart. Hotpatching does not apply to non-security updates for Windows Server 2022 and 2025. Windows 11 Enterprise editions are part of the Windows Enterprise subscription, which requires a Windows 11 Pro license for full feature access. There is speculation about hotpatching for Windows Home and Pro editions, but it is particularly beneficial for complex deployments in business environments.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launched today at 8 AM PST, but many users experienced significant issues, including installation failures and persistent loading screens. Xbox Game Studios did not provide pre-launch access to reviewers, citing the need to avoid unrealistic timelines due to a Day One patch. The download size via Steam was 11.6 GiB, but users faced lengthy loading times and additional downloads. Many encountered greyed-out options and crashes, with error messages about insufficient internet bandwidth despite having a strong connection. Microsoft acknowledged the issues and is working on a fix, stating that some users may experience slow download and install times.
