On September 3, 2026, Microsoft announced that Xbox Game Pass subscribers will see a shift in cloud gaming access. Starting November 2026, unlimited cloud streaming will be replaced by a tiered hour bank system: 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium, and 5 for Essential subscribers. Once a subscriber exhausts their allotted hours, they must wait for the next billing cycle or purchase additional time. This change is the most significant since the beta launch of Xbox Cloud Gaming in 2019. The announcement was made on Xbox Wire, and the new structure is reflected on Xbox’s product pages. The new tiered system introduces a scarcity model, with every paid tier now having its own cloud gaming quota. Essential subscribers, who previously had no cloud access, will now receive 5 hours per month. The pricing for the Game Pass tiers is as follows: Ultimate at .99 for 15 hours, Premium at .99 for 10 hours, and Essential at .99 for 5 hours. The free ad-supported tier remains unchanged at 5 hours per month. Microsoft's rationale for the change is based on usage data indicating that most subscribers do not heavily utilize cloud streaming, coupled with the rising costs of operating cloud gaming services. The company has stated that additional hours can be purchased once a subscriber's monthly allotment is used up, although pricing details for these add-ons have not yet been disclosed. The new hour caps will take effect in November 2026, following a shorter notice period compared to NVIDIA's GeForce NOW service, which implemented a 100-hour monthly cap earlier in 2026. The response from gaming communities has been largely negative, with concerns about the limits falling short of typical usage patterns and conflicting with the marketing of Game Pass as offering unlimited access. The introduction of hour caps could impact Game Pass's subscriber base, particularly among those who rely on cloud gaming as their primary access point. Microsoft's internal usage data will determine the extent of this impact, as the company aims to control costs without raising subscription prices.

The original Chromecast has received an update, which has pleased its users who appreciate its simplicity compared to the more complex Google TV interface. A recent poll showed that 36% of users often use their older Chromecast, another 36% use it rarely, and 27% never had one. The Chromecast (3rd gen) remains reliable for some users, despite being connected to an Android TV with built-in Chromecast capabilities, which can struggle with performance issues. Users find casting from a smartphone to be more efficient than navigating the TV's interface, and the ability to cast content without delays is a significant advantage. The original Chromecast continues to be relevant and valued by users for its functionality and ease of use.

There is a divide between casual Windows users and engaged enthusiasts, with passive users often accepting default settings that contribute to system bloat. Passive users enable telemetry and promotional content by not customizing their installations, while active users take steps to enhance privacy and performance. Microsoft interprets user inaction as approval for unwanted features, leading to an accumulation of bloatware and unnecessary updates. The Connected User Experiences and Telemetry service collects user data, justifying the inclusion of features like Copilot, which many users may not want. Users face challenges in maintaining control over their systems, often needing technical knowledge to opt out of unwanted features. Microsoft's feedback system is inadequate, interpreting silence as consent rather than a lack of interest, making it difficult for users to effect meaningful change.

The summary shall NOT include a title, introduction and conclusion. Text: When one thinks of Android Auto, popular applications such as Google Maps, Waze, and Spotify often come to mind. However, a recent exploration of lesser-known apps has revealed a treasure trove of tools that can significantly enhance the driving experience. For instance, Fuelio has proven invaluable in managing fuel expenses, while SpotHero simplifies the often daunting task of finding parking in urban areas. Venturing beyond the Play Store's main offerings can lead to discovering hidden gems that elevate daily commutes. Fuelio keeps my car's gas tank full Since switching from an EV to a gas car, this app has really come in handy Having driven an electric vehicle for the past five years, transitioning to a gas car has been an adjustment. My family recently required a second vehicle, and given the rising costs of electric cars, we opted for a traditional gas model. While my Kia K4 Hatchback is efficient, I've found myself refueling more frequently than anticipated, prompting a renewed focus on gas prices. Fuelio has emerged as a reliable companion in this regard. The app not only locates nearby gas stations but also displays their prices, often revealing a price difference of around [cyberseo_openai model="gpt-4o-mini" prompt="Rewrite a news story for a business publication, in a calm style with creativity and flair based on text below, making sure it reads like human-written text in a natural way. Text: When most people think of Android Auto, well-known apps like Google Maps, Waze, and Spotify probably come to mind instantly, but over the past few weeks, I've started using a few lesser-known apps that make my life significantly easier. For example, Fuelio helps me stay on top of filling up my car, and SpotHero has my back when it comes to finding parking in the city. Sometimes it's worth doing a bit of extra research and scrolling past the Play Store's front page to uncover hidden Android Auto gems that can make your day-to-day drives better. Fuelio keeps my car's gas tank full Since switching from an EV to a gas car, this app has really come in handy For the past roughly five years, I've driven an electric vehicle. While I still have my EV, my family recently needed a second vehicle, and given the skyrocketing cost of electric cars right now, we went the old-school gas car route this time. While my Kia K4 Hatchback is pretty great on gas, I've needed to fill it up a bit more than I expected. This has me thinking about the cost of gas again for the first time in several years. When it comes to finding the cheapest gas in my area, Fuelio has been really useful. The app not only helps me find nearby gas stations but also shows their prices. Usually, the cost difference between gas stations is about $0.10, but in today's world, even saving a few dollars is worth it. Fuelio also lets you log your mileage so you can see how much mileage you're getting from your vehicle. I haven't tried this feature yet, but I plan to soon. Posts By  Rich Edmonds SpotHero helps me find parking when I need it If you're headed into a major city's downtown core, this app is worth trying If you've ever headed into the busy downtown core of a major city when there's an event happening, you'll know that finding parking often feels impossible. In most cases, you end up parking in the first lot you see and likely overpay considerably. This is where SpotHero comes in. The app helps you find available parking spots in garages and surface lots, and even lets you purchase a spot in advance. That way, all you need to do is pull into the lot, and you're good to go. If you're a big planner like me, it's the type of feature you'll probably come to rely on very quickly. I've only used SpotHero a few times over the past few weeks, but it's really giving me welcome peace of mind that I've grown to appreciate. It's worth noting that the Android Auto version of SpotHero doesn't let you book a parking spot directly; you'll need to use the Android app for that. Unlike other weather apps, which generally show the temperature and whether it's raining or snowing, Weather & Radar gives you access to a live weather radar on your car's infotainment screen. This means that if you're on the road and see ominous clouds looming ahead, you can take a look at Weather & Radar to see if that storm is actually going to hit you. If you're on a road trip, this can come in handy in terms of helping you decide whether it makes sense to pull off at an upcoming rest stop for some food or keep barreling ahead to beat the storm. Since I haven't been on a road trip recently, I actually haven't needed to use Weather & Radar yet. Still, I've added it to my Android Auto app rotation because I know I'll be glad I have it installed at some point, especially as weather becomes increasingly more erratic where I live. If I'm driving my EV and need to stop for a quick charge on a longer drive, I always turn to PlugShare. The crowdsourced app shows nearby charging stations, how fast they charge, what network they're on, and the types of chargers they offer, including whether they support J1772, CCS1, NACS/J3400, or CHAdeMO. I've really come to appreciate PlugShare's user reviews of chargers. In my area, there aren't many chargers, and those that are available are often either broken or charge very slowly. For example, a 50kW charger might only charge my Ioniq 5 at about 25kW consistently, depending on the outside temperature. This allows me to avoid wasting time and actually find the best-working charger. On top of that, I can see how much a charge costs and which network it's on. EV charging is rarely expensive, but it's still nice to know what to expect in terms of price, since it can vary.
