Samsung plans to use the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chip in its upcoming Galaxy Tab S12 series, moving away from the traditional Snapdragon processors. The Dimensity 9500, identified by its model number MT6993, is linked to various innovative features in Samsung's AI core application, including AI-generated wallpapers, image expansion capabilities, generative editing tools, and image harmonization techniques. While the Dimensity 9500 may not match the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in CPU performance, it is noted for its gaming performance and lower temperatures during extended use, making it a suitable choice for Samsung's new devices.

Microsoft is rolling out a significant update to the Windows 11 Run menu for users in the Experimental Channel, featuring a modern interface, improved speed, and dark mode support. The "Browse" button has been removed and replaced with a new command, “~,” which directs users to their user directory. The updated Run menu is developed using code from the Command Palette, and Windows 11 Insiders can activate it through Settings. An early version of this redesign was seen in preview builds last year. The update aims to enhance overall system performance and efficiency.

Intel's transition to a hybrid architecture for its CPUs began with the Alder Lake series in 2021, combining performance and efficiency cores. Intel's Vice President, Robert Hallock, noted that while the hybrid architecture has matured, a "unified core" is still in development. He mentioned that many users disable efficiency cores (E-cores) to enhance performance, but the performance difference between using only performance cores (P-cores) and both types of cores is minimal, around 1%. Hallock explained that early implementation of Intel's Thread Director improved performance with only P-cores, and the Windows task scheduler struggles without it. He emphasized the importance of software optimization for enhancing performance, stating that a significant portion of potential performance—estimated between 10% to 30%—remains untapped due to suboptimal game optimization. AMD's approach includes integrating additional SRAM through its 3D V-cache technology, while Intel's upcoming Nova Lake will introduce a Big Last Level Cache (bLLC). Hallock indicated that developers have primarily optimized for AMD's silicon, limiting the full potential of Intel's hybrid architecture.

To check computer specifications on Windows 11, go to Settings > System > About for a quick overview of CPU, RAM, and system type. For detailed insights, use Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check the Performance tab, or run msinfo32 via Windows + R for comprehensive details. For gaming at 1080p or 1440p, a minimum Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 processor, 16 GB RAM, and a dedicated GPU with 8 GB VRAM are recommended, along with a fast 512 GB or larger NVMe SSD for better load times. An SSD offers faster boot times and application launches (over 500 MB/s) compared to a traditional HDD (100–150 MB/s), which has greater storage capacity but slower performance. The Neural Processing Unit (NPU) is designed for AI tasks on PCs, improving performance and efficiency, but is not essential unless frequently using AI applications. By 2026, 16 GB RAM will be sufficient for everyday use and multitasking, while 32 GB will be ideal for gaming and creative work. 8 GB may still support basic tasks but could struggle with modern applications.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 powers the RedMagic 11 Pro Golden Saga Edition, which can run high-profile PC games through emulation on Android. In a demonstration, it achieved playable framerates in games like Cyberpunk 2077, Ghost of Tsushima, Grand Theft Auto V, Project Cars 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Resident Evil Requiem. The device features a 6.85-inch display with a 144Hz refresh rate, a resolution of 2688x1216, 24GB of LPDDR5T memory, and 1TB of UFS 4.1 Pro storage. It includes a dedicated gaming chip, the RedCore R4, and a liquid cooling system with an active fan. Users can choose from performance modes such as Eco, Balanced, Rise, and Diablo, with the Rise mode providing a balance of performance and efficiency. During testing, Red Dead Redemption 2 averaged framerates in the high 40s, reaching nearly 60 FPS, while Resident Evil Requiem exceeded 90 FPS in some areas. Grand Theft Auto V reached up to 100 FPS indoors and over 60 FPS in the open world.

Microsoft announced that Windows 11 26H1 will be supported for consumers until March 2028, with rollout starting for PCs with eligible CPUs, specifically the Snapdragon X2 family, which includes Snapdragon X2 Plus, Snapdragon X2 Elite, and Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme. The official launch occurred on February 10, 2026, alongside its first cumulative update. Users with first-generation Snapdragon Copilot+ PCs cannot upgrade to this version. Windows 11 26H1 is described as a "hardware-optimized release" aimed at enhancing performance and efficiency for Arm-based chips, though it does not promise significant enhancements over version 25H2 or the upcoming 26H2. Enterprise and Education editions will be supported until March 13, 2029, while Home and Pro editions will be supported until March 14, 2028. Windows 11 SE is not supported in 26H1. A new release, Windows 11 26H2, is expected to be available for all users, including those with first-generation Arm-based PCs, and will be the recommended update for broader deployment. Upgrades from version 25H1 to 26H1 are not possible, and all upgrade paths are currently closed, with plans to transition to version 27H2 in the latter half of 2027.

Windows 11 is versatile and meets user demands across various tasks, but it faces challenges in PC gaming due to its bloat and background processes. SteamOS, a Linux-based operating system, is gaining popularity among gamers, especially with the upcoming release of a new console-like Steam Machine in early 2026 and a variant of the Legion Go 2 gaming handheld in June 2026. SteamOS offers superior performance and efficiency, with less system overhead compared to Windows, although it still faces issues like anti-cheat compatibility. Community sentiment is shifting away from Windows due to dissatisfaction with Microsoft's updates and AI integration, leading many gamers to consider SteamOS as an alternative. Microsoft is aware of the need to improve Windows 11's gaming experience and has announced updates for 2026. Steam has a large user base, with 35 to 40 million users online at any time, providing a strong platform for promoting SteamOS. Despite the rise of SteamOS, Windows remains the most popular operating system and continues to manage a wide range of tasks effectively.
