Google Photos could finally fix one of its most frustrating sharing hurdles

Google Photos is introducing a "Copy" button in the share sheet, allowing users to copy images directly into other applications without prior downloads. This feature, available in version v7.63.0.867680147, enables users to paste full-resolution images with slight compression into existing messages. Users can only copy one image at a time, consistent with standard copy-paste behavior on Android. Additionally, Google Photos is receiving a Material 3 Expressive redesign for its Backup settings, with updates to the Album screen and the Updates section to enhance usability and aesthetics.

SnapBridge is an application developed by Nikon that connects compatible cameras to smart devices using Bluetooth Low Energy technology, allowing for automatic image transfers, remote camera control, GPS location tagging, cloud storage integration, and social media sharing. It automatically sends photos to a device as they are taken, resizing them to 2MP for quick sharing. Users can control camera settings remotely and embed GPS coordinates into images. SnapBridge offers 20GB of free cloud storage for images and allows for direct sharing on social media platforms. To use SnapBridge on a PC, users can employ Android emulators like BlueStacks or NoxPlayer, or use Nikon's Wireless Transfer Utility for wireless image transfers. Minimum system requirements for installation include Windows 7 or newer with at least 4GB of RAM and 5GB of free storage, or macOS 10.12 or later with similar specifications. Common issues include connection problems, slow performance, and image transfer failures, which can often be resolved by checking network settings or adjusting emulator resources. SnapBridge is free to download and use, compatible with many modern Nikon cameras, and transfers JPEG versions of images while retaining RAW files on the camera. The app requires about 100MB of storage, with additional space needed for transferred images.

Windows 11 Phone Link app is losing Photos feature, Android gallery moving to File Explorer

The Microsoft Phone Link app will soon disable the ability to view photos directly from the phone’s gallery, consolidating photo access within File Explorer. Users will receive an alert when accessing the “Photos” section of the Phone Link app, indicating that photo viewing is transitioning to File Explorer, which offers enhanced photo management features such as multi-select, copy and paste, and drag-and-drop functionality. Unlike the Phone Link app, File Explorer allows access to the entire mobile storage, including videos. Users can enable mobile device visibility in File Explorer through the “Manage mobile devices” settings. Windows 11 integrates paired phones into File Explorer, allowing users to view all files on their mobile devices. The Phone Link app’s Photos section will redirect users to File Explorer, where the camera folder is displayed, but accessing other images requires navigating through directories. The transition may present a steeper learning curve for users accustomed to the Phone Link app’s streamlined photo access.

Tip: Use the New OneDrive App for Windows 11 Today

Microsoft hosted an online event to unveil new features for OneDrive, including a new app for Windows 11 that will officially launch next year. Some users can access the app early if they are on Windows 11 builds 24H2 or 25H2. To access the app, users can navigate to C:Users[username]AppDataLocalMicrosoftOneDrive in File Explorer. The app includes distinct views for Photos and Files, currently supporting only cloud-based content. The Photos view features tabs for Moments, Gallery, Albums, People, and Favorites, with the Gallery tab as the default view. The Files view resembles the OneDrive web interface.
