Google Messages has introduced several new features for Android and Pixel users, focusing on user safety and connectivity. Key updates include an AI-driven scam detection tool that analyzes SMS, MMS, and RCS messages in real time to identify potential scams, alerting users to suspicious messages. This feature is initially available in English in the US, UK, and Canada, and it prioritizes user privacy by processing data on the device. Users can also share their live location with trusted contacts through a new feature integrated with the Find My Device app, which allows for real-time location sharing while maintaining control over who can access this information. Additionally, exclusive features for the Pixel 9 model include enhanced connectivity options for linking GoPro cameras and other Pixel phones, as well as upgrades to the Pixel Studio app for creating stylized images and stickers.

Google is preparing to extend the Pixel Studio app, currently exclusive to the Pixel 9 series, to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro models. Investigations revealed a new APK stub for Pixel Studio associated with the Pixel 8 Pro, which is also pre-installed on the Pixel 8 following the Android 15 update. The APK stub acts as a placeholder, requiring activation from Google for users to download the app from the Play Store. Additionally, the removal of the com.google.android.feature.PIXEL2024EXPERIENCE feature flag from the Pixel Studio app suggests that Google is ready to make it available for older devices. There are no signs that the Pixel 7 series will receive the Pixel Studio app, as the APK stub has not been found on the Pixel 7.

Google has updated its Pixel Studio app for the Pixel 9 series, introducing a feature that allows users to share images directly from other applications for editing, without needing to download them first. The new version (1.1.001.672728916.05) includes a sharing option that appears when users tap the share button in compatible apps, enhancing the editing workflow. However, the sharing feature only works with apps that support direct image file sharing, excluding platforms like Instagram and standard web browsers. Additionally, Pixel Studio does not support images with human subjects due to privacy and ethical considerations. Users have experienced occasional issues with opening images on the first attempt, indicating that the feature may still require further development.

The Google Pixel 9 series introduced the Pixel Studio app, which generates AI images from text prompts. Initial feedback indicates challenges with the app, including the generation of inappropriate content despite restrictions. Testers reported unsettling images, such as a cartoon character as a German soldier with a Nazi insignia and a character in a school setting surrounded by deceased children. Google stated that the AI model should not produce such images and is working to block problematic prompts on some devices. The launch of the Pixel Studio app raises concerns given previous issues with Google's Gemini image generation tool, which faced similar challenges earlier this year.
