Announcing New Optional Windows 11 Insider Preview Build for Canary Channel 29531.1000

A new optional update for the Windows 11 Insider Canary Channel has been released, introducing a dual-path approach for validating platform modifications. Windows Insiders can now preview Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 28020.1611, which emphasizes new features for version 26H1 and will be classified under the 28000 series. Insiders can update to the new active development Build 29531.1000 via Settings, transitioning to the 29500 series. Future Canary Channel builds will be detailed in individual blog posts. Insiders are advised to remain on their current update path for stability, as reverting to lower build numbers requires a clean installation of Windows 11. The update includes platform changes and may exhibit instability, with features potentially evolving or being removed. A desktop watermark will be displayed in pre-release builds, and some features may debut in other channels before the Canary Channel. Localization of features will occur over time, and feedback on localization issues can be submitted through the Feedback Hub.

Windows 11 26H1 coming for new processors only

Microsoft has announced the upcoming release of Windows 11 version 26H1, focusing on compatibility with specific silicon, likely Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors. The new build, 28000, has appeared in the Windows Insider Canary channel, marking a shift from previous numbering conventions. This release is the first H1 update for Windows 11, following the last H2 release, 24H2. Windows 11 26H1 Focuses on New Silicon Support, Not New Features

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 28000, focusing on hardware optimization rather than major user interface changes. This build supports advanced silicon from Qualcomm and NVIDIA, specifically targeting Windows-on-Arm platforms featuring Snapdragon X2 Elite processors and NVIDIA's N1 and N1x SoCs. The 26H1 update will not be a feature update for version 25H2 but will include platform modifications for new hardware, with no action required from users. Microsoft plans to use an enablement package (eKB) to unlock functionalities within the 26H1 framework, similar to the 25H2 update, which also introduced few new features and emphasized security improvements while deprecating certain features like PowerShell 2.0 and WMIC due to security vulnerabilities. Additionally, IT administrators can remove pre-installed Microsoft default applications on Enterprise and EDU devices through Group Policy or MDM CSP.

Windows 11 version 26H1: Everything we know so far about Microsoft’s next OS release in 2026

Microsoft is preparing to release a new version of Windows 11, diverging from the traditional update schedule. This upcoming version, codenamed Bromine, will support the Qualcomm Snapdragon X2-based system-on-chip and NVIDIA N1X platform, which require significant modifications not compatible with the current version 25H2. The new version 24H2, also known as Germanium, will utilize enhancements from the Bromine platform and will initially be available only for devices powered by the Snapdragon X2 chipset at launch.
