Clown of Slipknot states that “AI is part of life” and talks about his passion for Minecraft

His gaming journey began with early consoles like Atari and Intellivision, and he views ‘Vernearth’ as a culmination of his creative exploration, influenced by various games including ‘Quake’, ‘Goat Simulator’, and ‘World of Warcraft’. Crahan has a personal connection to ‘Minecraft’, having introduced it to his children and used it as a means of coping with grief. He also shared his perspective on artificial intelligence, likening it to a personal assistant and suggesting its potential for enhancing creativity in music. Crahan believes that younger generations will embrace AI technology, contrasting their views with those of older generations who may be more apprehensive about its implications.

URI art professor’s work featured in ‘Minecraft’video game

Travess Smalley, an assistant print media professor at the University of Rhode Island, discovered Minecraft over a decade ago and began exploring its creative potential. He has integrated his artistic expressions into the game, which has sold over 350 million copies globally. Smalley uses a "chance flower" program to generate unique art, similar to the procedurally generated worlds in Minecraft. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he developed work on a dedicated Minecraft server, creating a digital world that transforms the game into an expansive poem. His projects include "pixel rugs," generative digital artworks translated into hand-woven rugs, and "CRAWL," a video maze game featuring 512 distinct artworks. Smalley plans to release a book titled "Pixel Rugs" in January 2026 and encourages his students to use Minecraft as a medium for artistic expression.

Minecraft fan wins Latitude festival poetry competition for kids

A seven-year-old boy named Myles from Wymondham, Norfolk, won a poetry competition for children with his poem titled "A Friend Like Steve." He will perform it at the Latitude festival on July 24. The competition was organized in collaboration with the BBC and was open to children aged seven to eleven from Suffolk, Norfolk, and Cambridgeshire. Myles' poem was praised by judge Luke Wright for its subject matter related to Minecraft. Two runners-up, eleven-year-olds Zara and Eleanor, were also selected to read their works at the festival. The competition aimed to showcase the creativity of young people, with a focus on the theme of friendship. The Latitude Festival will take place from July 24 to 27, 2025, featuring headliners like Sting and Snow Patrol.
