Google Pixel prepares official Scam Detection roll out for Phone and Messages

Google is introducing Scam Detection features for the Phone app on Pixel devices, powered by Gemini Nano, with a rollout anticipated for March 2025. A beta phase began in November, allowing users to test the Scam Detection capabilities, which include background monitoring of incoming calls and warning notifications for potential scams. Users will receive a red pop-up notification stating "likely scam" if a potential threat is detected, with options to end the call or report it as not a scam. The feature will be disabled by default to prioritize user privacy, but can be enabled in the app's settings. Additionally, the Messages app has been testing alerts for hazardous links since October. This update may coincide with the feature drop for Android 15 in March 2025, with ongoing testing for Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1 and plans for an early Android 16 update in the second quarter of 2025.

Android’s Phone app grabs ‘Recent’ filters alongside a small Pixel change

Here’s what satellite messaging could look like in Google Messages

T-Mobile is set to begin beta testing a satellite messaging service in partnership with Starlink, specifically designed for Android 15 users. This service will allow users to send messages via the Google Messages app when outside cellular or Wi-Fi range. Users will receive a prompt to connect to satellite messaging on the Google Messages home screen and during one-on-one chats, though group chats may not be supported. Real-time Scam Detection is rolling out now in Google Phone app beta

The Scam Detection feature, powered by artificial intelligence, is now available for beta testers of the Google Phone app in the U.S. for Pixel 6 and newer models. Google may be upgrading Assistant actions into Gemini-powered Extensions

Recent beta findings from the Google app indicate that Gemini is set to replace Google Assistant for various functions, allowing users to send texts via WhatsApp and Google Messages directly through Gemini. Spotify is integrating Extensions similar to those in YouTube Music, enhancing user experience. This month’s Patch Tuesday finally adds a reverse mouse scrolling option

On the second Tuesday of October, Patch Tuesday updates are released for all supported versions of Windows, including significant updates for Windows 11 versions 23H2 and 24H2. The update (KB5044284) for Windows 11 version 24H2 introduces the ability to change the scrolling direction for mice, a feature previously available only for laptop touchpads.
