Security researchers from zLabs have identified a new version of the Konfety Android malware that uses advanced ZIP-level modifications to avoid detection and mimic legitimate apps on the Google Play Store. The malware employs an "evil-twin" strategy, distributing malicious versions with the same package names as harmless apps. It manipulates the APK's ZIP structure to disrupt reverse engineering tools, allowing it to evade analysis. The installation process on Android can handle these malformed packages without raising alarms. Konfety features a dynamic code loading mechanism, hiding a secondary Dalvik Executable (DEX) file that is decrypted at runtime, which contains malicious components. It integrates with the CaramelAds SDK for ad fraud, while disguising its activities through geofencing and icon concealment. The malware has been linked to previous campaigns and uses decoy applications on the Play Store for camouflage. Upon execution, it redirects users to fraudulent websites, leading to unwanted app installations and compromising user privacy. The threat actors behind Konfety continuously update their tactics to evade detection, highlighting the growing sophistication of Android malware. Users are advised to scrutinize app sources and monitor network activity to mitigate risks.

Microsoft is introducing a new AI action within its Click To Do feature on Windows 11, allowing users to receive descriptions of images on their screens using on-device AI. This feature is available exclusively for Copilot+ PCs and can be accessed by holding down the Windows key and clicking the mouse. The describe image function operates offline, enhancing user privacy by generating descriptions locally without an internet connection. Click To Do also offers various functions, including text analysis and image identification. The describe image feature is currently available through the Windows 11 Insider Program for users in the Beta and Dev Channels, with a broader rollout expected later this year for Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon processors, while Intel and AMD chip users will gain access in the coming weeks.

The Black Rock Neutralizer is a special weapon in FBC: Firebreak essential for neutralizing corrupted items that complicate gameplay. Players can typically find it at ammo collection points or in safe rooms, which require unlocking. It fires stones to destroy corrupted items, rewarding players with samples. The weapon has limited ammo that cannot be replenished, so it should not be used on regular enemies. If players run out of ammo, they will have to deal with the corrupted modifiers without the weapon's help.

Users of Windows 11 have expressed frustration with the "start backup" option in File Explorer, which prompts backing up files to OneDrive. For those not using OneDrive, this reminder can be annoying. Uninstalling OneDrive removes the prompt, but many users are linked to it through their Microsoft accounts. A recent beta build has introduced a feature allowing users to disable backup reminders in File Explorer. Users can choose to temporarily hide the prompt for one month or permanently turn it off. Once disabled, the prompt is replaced with a generic PC icon, although a small popup still informs users that the backup reminder is off and provides instructions for re-enabling it through OneDrive settings. This feature is disabled by default, and users can enable it by downloading ViVeTool, running a command in the command prompt, and restarting their PC.
