The next-gen ROG Ally looks to be Xbox’s first steps toward handheld gaming

In 2024, Asus released the ROG Ally X, rated four-and-a-half stars. The new device may feature AMD's Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU, which includes significant improvements over its predecessor. There are indications of collaboration between Microsoft and Asus for an Xbox-branded handheld, potentially linked to a new generation of consoles in 2027. Microsoft isn’t launching its Xbox handheld this year, but Asus might be

Microsoft is developing a next-generation Xbox platform aimed at unifying its Windows and Xbox ecosystems, with a handheld gaming device codenamed Project Kennan in prototype phase, expected to launch in a few years. The goal is to create a universal library of games accessible across devices, with substantial changes anticipated by 2025. Project Kennan will offer a handheld experience powered by Windows, resembling the Xbox interface, as part of a broader strategy called Project Bayside. Microsoft is also focusing on streamlining game development for seamless operation across handhelds, consoles, and PCs. A dedicated team for game preservation and compatibility was established in early 2024, indicating a commitment to maintaining digital libraries. A premium successor to the Xbox Series X is projected for release in 2027. Microsoft is hosting a 50th anniversary event on April 4th to share updates on its Copilot AI and other innovations. Additionally, Copilot will have a new press-to-talk hotkey on Windows, and the Remote Desktop app will be replaced by a new Windows app by May 27th. Forza Horizon 5 will require a Microsoft account on PS5 for online features, and a recent Xbox Alpha update caused some consoles to reset to factory settings. GTA 5 Enhanced performance analysis: Forget max settings, my advice is to enable Very High RT and enjoy the show

GTA 5's Enhanced PC version was launched on March 4, featuring modern graphical enhancements such as ray-traced shadows and reflections, upgraded ambient occlusion, global illumination, and support for DLSS 3 and FSR 3 upscaling. Performance testing was conducted using the RTX 4070 and RX 7800 XT graphics cards. With ray tracing enabled, performance dropped below 30 fps, while setting it to Very High without ray tracing resulted in frame rates between 40 to 70 fps. The RTX 4070 averaged 100-110 fps at Maximum RT, but switching to Very High RT provided a 35 fps improvement. The RX 7800 XT eliminated sub-60 fps drops with this adjustment. Performance testing revealed frame drops in certain areas, such as Franklin's backyard, likely due to dense vegetation. Very High RT settings offered a smoother experience and slightly better image quality than Maximum settings.
