Claude, an AI tool developed by Anthropic, receives nearly 290 million web visits monthly and has become a target for cybercriminals. A fake website has been found that impersonates Claude, distributing a trojanized installer named Claude-Pro-windows-x64.zip. This installer, while appearing legitimate, deploys PlugX malware, granting attackers remote access to users' systems. The fraudulent site mimics the official download page and uses passive DNS records linked to commercial bulk-email platforms, indicating active maintenance by the operators. The ZIP file contains an MSI installer that incorrectly spells "Claude" as "Cluade" and creates a desktop shortcut that launches a VBScript dropper. This script runs the legitimate claude.exe while executing malicious activities in the background, including copying files to the Windows Startup folder to ensure persistence after reboot. The attack utilizes a DLL sideloading technique recognized by MITRE as T1574.002, where a legitimate G DATA antivirus updater is exploited with a malicious DLL. Within 22 seconds of execution, the malware establishes a connection to an IP address associated with Alibaba Cloud, indicating control over the compromised system. The dropper script also employs anti-forensic measures to delete itself and the VBScript after deployment. Indicators of compromise include the filenames Claude-Pro-windows-x64.zip, NOVUpdate.exe, avk.dll, and NOVUpdate.exe.dat, along with the network indicator 8.217.190.58:443 (TCP) as the command and control destination. Users are advised to download Claude only from the official site and to remain vigilant against potential compromises.

The Kremlin is promoting its state-backed messenger service, MAX, but many Russians are skeptical about it due to privacy and functionality concerns. The initiative occurs alongside extensive internet censorship and the blocking of popular messaging platforms like Telegram. While some users have adapted to MAX, the majority remain cautious. Officials justify MAX as essential for national security, arguing that foreign apps pose risks. The parent company, VK, claims 107 million users, expanding its reach beyond Russia. Opposition activists warn of potential state surveillance and user data access. Many users feel compelled to download MAX due to state requirements but prefer other options like Telegram. There is a strong sentiment among the public that app usage should be a personal choice, with critics expressing discontent over the government's approach to mandating downloads.

The MAX messaging platform has been introduced in Russia as a "national messenger" to replace foreign applications like Telegram and WhatsApp, which face restrictions. Owned by VK, MAX has over 100 million users and is expanding its reach internationally. There are concerns about data privacy, with critics fearing that security services could access user information. Some users feel pressured to use MAX for communication with institutions and services, raising questions about its voluntary adoption. The public reaction is mixed, with some supporting a domestically controlled system while others prefer existing platforms. Experts in the telecom sector express skepticism about the platform's maturity and trustworthiness. The situation reflects a broader trend of increased control over online communication in Russia.

GameStop was a pioneer in digital distribution before Valve's Steam became the leading platform for PC gaming. Larry Kuperman, a veteran of the gaming industry, contributed to the development of Impulse, an online store acquired by GameStop. In the 2000s, third-party digital distribution was not intuitive, as game sales were primarily controlled by physical retailers. BioWare regretted not creating a platform like Steam. Amazon's attempts to compete with Steam were unsuccessful. Kuperman attributes Steam's success to its community-building efforts, which fostered loyalty among users. The platform significantly lowered barriers for game developers, allowing anyone to publish games for a nominal fee. Steam has been crucial for indie developers, providing extensive reach and discoverability compared to other platforms like GOG. Kuperman credits GOG as essential for his work at Nightdive, and Gabe Newell's ideas continued to shape Valve after he stepped back from active development.
