Individuals who choose free antivirus software often do so based on a careful evaluation of their needs, budget constraints, and personal experiences with security. Factors influencing this decision include monthly budget, type of internet usage, trust in software brands, previous experiences with malware, confidence in personal online habits, and awareness of cybersecurity risks. Psychological theories, such as Prospect Theory and Satisficing Theory, suggest that users assess the perceived benefits of free software against the costs of paid options, leading many to conclude that free solutions are sufficient for their needs. Research indicates that technology choices are based on perceived usefulness and value, with positive past experiences reinforcing the decision to continue using free antivirus software. Overall, individuals often make decisions by balancing their requirements with available resources, highlighting the importance of evaluating personal needs before making purchases.

Windows 11 includes built-in tools like Storage Sense, Temporary Files settings, and Storage Recommendations for managing storage. BleachBit is a free, open-source cleanup utility for Windows 11 that removes temporary files, caches, logs, and browsing data without ads. Users can download it via a standard installer or a portable version, with installation possible through the command line. BleachBit features a "Preview" option to estimate storage recovery before deletion and offers recommended cleanup options such as temporary files, logs, and the Recycle Bin. It includes a file shredder for securely deleting sensitive files and can wipe free disk space, although this is not recommended for regular maintenance. BleachBit does not have a Registry cleaner, which can prevent potential system issues. While it does not directly speed up Windows 11, it can free up storage space and resolve some cache-related issues. Users comfortable with Windows 11's built-in tools may not need BleachBit, but it offers greater control for those wanting to manage browser data and temporary files more effectively.

A recent cybersecurity analysis from McAfee Labs has revealed a malware campaign involving WeedHack, which has garnered over 116,000 hits and is accumulating 2,000 to 3,000 malicious hits daily. WeedHack is marketed as malware-as-a-service (MaaS) and is accessible on the internet, allowing individuals with minimal technical skills to use it for harmful activities. A dedicated Telegram channel for WeedHack has over 850 members, many of whom are teenagers and young adults using the malware for cyberbullying. The malware spreads primarily through YouTube videos promoting Minecraft mods, which often conceal the WeedHack malware. Additionally, bad actors use SEO poisoning tactics to elevate fake websites posing as legitimate Minecraft clients. McAfee lists several legitimate clients targeted by WeedHack, including Meteor Client, Radium Client, and Wurst Client. For an additional fee, attackers can access premium features like webcam access, keylogging, and file management. McAfee advises players to be cautious when downloading mods and to seek help from trusted adults if approached by individuals claiming to have compromised their systems.
