Windows 11 is getting a new look as Microsoft’s design boss confirms more ancient dialogs are next

Microsoft is modernizing outdated dialogs in Windows 11, including the Voice packages dialog, which currently lacks the rounded corners characteristic of the operating system's design. March Rogers, Partner Director of Design at Microsoft, confirmed that this dialog is scheduled for redesign, along with other legacy interfaces from older Windows versions. Microsoft is using a dual strategy for modernization: some dialogs are receiving dark mode support, while others are being rebuilt using WinUI 3. The File Properties dialog has already been successfully updated with this framework. The new Run dialog, developed with C# and WinUI 3, features dark mode and improved performance, while the legacy version will still be available. Additionally, the AutoPlay feature and Print Management app are also being redesigned in WinUI 3. Outdated interfaces, such as the local-account switching flow and the Windows 8-style input switcher on the login screen, are also set for redesign. Microsoft is updating various pages in the Settings menu, but the Control Panel will remain part of the Windows ecosystem.

This Good Lock module turns Samsung’s Gallery app into a more capable editor

Users appreciate its features but suggest improvements like format conversion and EXIF metadata editing.

September Patch Tuesday: 963 CVEs, 2 exploited flaws, 1 message

Microsoft has addressed 24 Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) in its developer tooling, with 23 classified as important and one as critical. The critical entry, CVE-2026-34182, has a CVSS score of 9.1 and affects CMS AuthEnvelopedData processing in Visual Studio versions 2017 to 2022. The highest-scoring entry is CVE-2026-81376, a security feature bypass in Visual Studio Code, with a CVSS score of 9.6. Visual Studio Code and its Copilot extensions account for ten of the CVEs, primarily related to security feature bypasses. The .NET framework has updates for SDK versions 8.0.131, 8.0.425, 9.0.121, 9.0.318, 10.0.112, and 10.0.401. Monthly rollups for the .NET Framework have been released for various operating systems, including Windows Server 2012 and Windows 10 versions. Adobe has released 963 CVEs, with 55 flagged by Microsoft as high risk, primarily in printing and fonts.

Microsoft is blocking the problem to fix Windows 11 KB5121003 restarts, crashes

Microsoft addressed printing issues and gaming-related complications linked to recent .NET Patch Tuesday updates. The problems were associated with RGB applications and the inpoutx64 system driver, which caused compatibility issues when certain games were launched. Microsoft has implemented a block to prevent the inpoutx64 driver from loading on affected devices, specifically targeting systems with the driver enabled and ARC Raiders installed. Users will receive a notification after the block is implemented, and the game should launch without further issues. The block is also being extended to systems running MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, while the issue with THE FINALS has been resolved. The resolution is being distributed automatically, and users need to restart their devices after the fix is applied. For enterprise-managed devices, IT administrators must manually apply the fix. Microsoft provided a temporary workaround by suggesting users disable the inpoutx64 driver through the Windows Registry. Users can change the Start value in the Registry Editor to 4 to disable the driver and may need to restart their devices for changes to take effect.
