Here’s everything new in Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 [Gallery]

Google has begun the rollout of Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1, with a stable release expected in March 2027. The beta includes a new Notes Quick Settings Tile for the Pixel 11 series, while the previous Notes lockscreen shortcut and homescreen widget remain exclusive to Pixel 11 devices. Changes to the status bar include a bolder VPN icon and enlarged Bluetooth and Airplane Mode icons. The Gemini Intelligence boot animation is now available on the Pixel 10 series. Several fixes have been implemented, addressing issues such as audio output device switching, app crashes, excessive spacing in application icons, NFC service crashes, device freezes with fingerprint unlock, and Wi-Fi connectivity problems.

Android Auto prepares support for Google Pixel’s Magic Cue & Proactive Assistance

Google is integrating its Proactive Assistance feature, previously known as "Magic Cue," into Android Auto. This feature aims to enhance user interaction with vehicles by providing timely and relevant information. The latest Android Auto 17.9 beta and stable version 17.8 include code strings indicating the upcoming arrival of Proactive Assistance, which debuted on the Pixel 10 series and was rebranded for the Pixel 11 series. Examples of Proactive Assistance include displaying flight information in Google Messages, pulling up restaurant listings in Google Maps, and alerting users about conflicting calendar events. Although the integration was announced in May, updates on its release timeline have been limited. The feature is currently exclusive to Pixel phones, suggesting that Android Auto integration will require a Pixel device.

Here’s your first glimpse at Google Gemini’s overlay upgrades

Users can expect an enhanced overlay experience in Google Gemini, introducing a Chat/Task selector within the interface. The updated overlay will feature dedicated buttons for recent conversations and a Proactive Assistance button for immediate access to interactions. In version 17.62.9 of the Google app, users can toggle between "Chat" and "Task" modes, improving accessibility. The overlay includes a bell icon for quick access to recent chats and a currently inactive Proactive Assistance icon. A new Browser settings page allows users to choose between using Chrome on their devices or a remote browser for internet access while away. These enhancements aim to provide greater control and a more tailored experience.

Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5: key changes

Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5 was released on September 15, 2026, with a public rollout for Pixel devices starting the next day. This beta version enhances the Proactive Assistance feature on Pixel 10 and Pixel 11 devices, allowing users more control over personalized suggestions and addressing various bugs. It is a development build for supported Pixel devices and Android Emulator images, with identified builds CP41.260828.004.A8 and CP41.260828.005.A6, and a security patch level dated August 5, 2026. The update package size for the Pixel 10 Pro XL is approximately 667 MB. The notable change in Beta 5 is the introduction of two Proactive Assistance entries in the Settings menu, allowing users to manage proactive suggestions more effectively. The updated settings page includes a "Use app content for suggestions" option, enabling users to control which applications can share screen content and notifications. Google's release notes list several fixes, including issues with Bluetooth device icons, unexpected reboots, missing volume controls, search-field highlight rendering, unlocking Private Space, HDR behavior, Google Wallet touchscreen unresponsiveness, camera crashes, and distorted Bluetooth call audio. The stable release of Android 17 QPR2 is expected in December 2026, and users are advised that Beta 5 is a developmental tool that may contain errors. Additionally, new restrictions on programmatic USSD requests for call forwarding have been introduced to reduce potential fraud.

This feature is linked to another rumored feature called "Your Day," which offers a curated overview of daily highlights. The "Proactive Assistance" feature will prioritize secure data handling and is expected to enhance user engagement by delivering tailored reminders and tasks. There are indications that this feature may have been rebranded to "Daily Brief." Additionally, Gemini has received an upgrade with Nano Banana 2 support, allowing the AI to access content in Photos and create unique images based on user memories.
