Imagination Teases PowerVR GPU Running on Windows with DirectX 11 Support

Imagination Technologies has demonstrated the 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark running on its D-Series GPU using the DirectX 11 API. This achievement is significant as it aligns the company's GPU intellectual property with the Windows ecosystem, enhancing gaming experiences. The D-Series GPUs, based on the PowerVR architecture, are designed to handle demanding desktop workloads and gaming scenarios. The DXD is the first D-Series product to feature hardware-based DirectX 11 Feature Level 110 support, indicating the company's capability to manage demanding DirectX workloads. The DXD supports various APIs, including DirectX 11, DirectX 12, Vulkan 1.4, OpenGL 4.6, and OpenCL 3.0. Additionally, the E-Series GPU IP includes DirectX 12 Feature Level 110 support. Some Chinese GPU manufacturers have begun adapting Imagination's GPU IP, with the DXTP architecture being repurposed for workstation applications. At the ICCAD 2025 expo, Xiang Dixian showcased the Fuxi A0 graphics card, demonstrating Imagination's technology in practical applications. New Windows-native NVMe driver benchmarks reveal transformative performance gains, up to 64.89% — lightning-fast random reads and breakthrough CPU efficiency

Microsoft's native NVMe driver, initially released for Windows Server 2025, is now available for Windows 11, enhancing SSD performance. Users can achieve performance gains through registry tweaks. Benchmark tests showed significant improvements in random read bandwidth and input/output operations per second (IOPS). In a test with AMD EPYC 9754 processors and Solidigm P5316 SSDs, the following results were observed: - 4K Random Read: Non-Native Driver 6.1 GiB/s, Native Driver 10.058 GiB/s (+64.89%) - 64K Random Read: Non-Native Driver 74.291 GiB/s, Native Driver 91.165 GiB/s (+22.71%) - 64K Sequential Read: Non-Native Driver 35.596 GiB/s, Native Driver 35.623 GiB/s (+0.08%) - 128K Sequential Read: Non-Native Driver 86.791 GiB/s, Native Driver 92.562 GiB/s (+6.65%) - 64K Sequential Write: Non-Native Driver 44.67 GiB/s, Native Driver 50.087 GiB/s (+12.13%) - 128K Sequential Write: Non-Native Driver 50.477 GiB/s, Native Driver 50.079 GiB/s (-0.79%) Random read latency decreased significantly, with 4K and 64K read times dropping by 38.46% and 13.39%, respectively. However, 64K sequential write latency increased by 39.85%, while 128K sequential write latency rose by 12.43%. The NVMe driver also showed favorable CPU usage results during sequential read and write operations. It is not enabled by default in Windows 11, requiring users to make registry changes to activate it.

Netflix Automates RDS PostgreSQL to Aurora PostgreSQL Migration Across 400 Production Clusters

Netflix has developed an internal automation platform to migrate Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL databases to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, reducing operational risks and downtime for nearly 400 production clusters. The platform allows service teams to perform migrations through a self-service workflow while ensuring processes like replication validation and rollback safeguards are maintained. Database access is managed through a platform-managed layer using Envoy, which standardizes mutual TLS and abstracts database endpoints, enhancing security and efficiency. The migration process starts with creating an Aurora PostgreSQL cluster as a read replica of the source RDS instance, initialized from a storage snapshot and continuously replaying write-ahead log (WAL) records. Validation checks are performed to ensure the replica can handle peak write throughput before cutover. For change data capture workloads, the system coordinates the state of replication slots and pauses CDC consumers to prevent excessive WAL retention. The Enablement Applications team at Netflix successfully migrated databases for device certification and partner billing workflows, addressing issues like elevated replication lag due to inactive logical replication slots. As replication lag decreases, the system enters a controlled quiescence phase, adjusts security rules, and reboots the source RDS instance. Once all transactions are processed and the Aurora replica is ready, it is promoted to a writable cluster, and traffic is rerouted. Rollback capabilities are prioritized, allowing redirection back to the original RDS instance if validation checks fail or anomalies are detected post-promotion. This setup enables seamless restoration without redeployment, and CDC consumers can resume from recorded slot positions if needed.
