Google has integrated the Circle to Search feature into its Pixel Camera app, available on the upcoming Pixel 11 series. This feature allows users to search for information by pointing their device at an object or text without needing to take a photograph first. Users can activate it by holding the home bar, enabling them to identify objects, translate text, and zoom in on distant items while remaining in the camera interface. Google has not confirmed whether this feature will be available on older Pixel models.

Security researchers found that several Samsung Smart TV applications, including Pac-Man, were embedding residential proxy SDKs from data brokers like Bright Data. In response, Samsung has banned the inclusion of residential proxy functionality in new app submissions and is working to remove existing apps with such software. The investigation by Norwegian cybersecurity firm Mnemonic revealed that the Bright Data SDK was integrated into various gaming applications, some promoted by Samsung. While Samsung TVs were not automatically sharing internet connections, the SDK could be activated remotely by developers, requiring user consent. Once consent was granted, the proxy service could operate in the background. Many Samsung TV applications were found to download most of their code from remote servers, complicating verification processes. The issue of residential proxy software is not limited to Samsung, as it has also been identified in various Android apps and devices. Following these findings, LG and Google have also taken measures to address the risks associated with residential proxy networks.

Windows 11 users have expressed frustrations with the operating system's search function, which has been cluttered and confusing. Microsoft is implementing a comprehensive overhaul to improve the search experience, currently rolling out to Windows Insiders in the Experimental channel. Key enhancements include the removal of promotional content from web results, prioritization of local results, and the introduction of a setting to disable web and Microsoft Store suggestions. Local content will be ranked higher in search results, and the search function will better tolerate typographical errors. Additionally, file searches will support two-character queries, and results will clearly indicate their sources. These changes are being tested first and will not be immediately available to all Windows 11 PCs.

Blizzard Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against Project Ascension, a private World of Warcraft server, claiming it operates a substantial business model based on significant infringement of Blizzard's intellectual property. Project Ascension reportedly attracts over a million players and allows in-game item purchases through Donation Points, generating millions for its operators. The server is allegedly hosted on "bulletproof" servers linked to the Russia-based Aeza Group, which has been targeted by the U.S. Department of the Treasury for cybercrime. The Turtle WoW server previously faced similar legal action from Blizzard, and there has been no public response from Project Ascension regarding the lawsuit. Community sentiment appears to be one of resignation towards the situation.

Sony has reintroduced its “Game available only on PS5” disclaimer in promotional materials, particularly in a trailer for a new PS5 monitor featuring the game Ghost of Yotei. This change follows reports that Sony has decided to halt the development of single-player first-party PC ports, marking a return to platform exclusivity after six years of releasing PlayStation Studios titles on Steam. From 2020 to 2024, Sony had embraced the PC market, launching titles like Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War on Steam, but concerns about diluting the PS5's value and hindering hardware sales have led to this strategic shift. The “Only on PS5” branding in the monitor trailer indicates this new policy, which specifically targets first-party, internally developed single-player games, while co-published titles like Death Stranding 2 will still be released on PC. Ghost of Yotei was initially planned for a PC port before those plans were scrapped. Reports suggest that the upcoming Saros, a follow-up to Returnal, has also had its PC port canceled. The future implications of this policy remain uncertain, particularly regarding potential exceptions beyond multiplayer titles.
