Meta is actively working on bringing cloud VR gaming to Meta Quest, with a leaked app called Avalanche appearing briefly on the Quest Store. The company intends to launch cloud streaming on Quest when it's consumer-ready, enabling higher graphics than the Snapdragon XR2 on the Quest 3 and Quest 3S can natively handle. The challenges ahead include dealing with latency and high ping that comes with cloud streaming. The author dreams of a partnership between Meta and Microsoft to stream VR ports of popular first-person titles on Quest, such as Minecraft, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Forza, and Halo.

Mojang has announced that official support for Minecraft VR will conclude in March 2025, including the cessation of PlayStation VR support and all other VR devices. Players can still access Minecraft through various mods on platforms like HTC Vive and Meta Quest, but PSVR users face limitations due to the closed nature of the PlayStation ecosystem. Existing worlds will remain accessible, but players will not be able to engage with them through a headset. Minecraft's VR support began in 2016, and the current discontinuation reflects challenges in the VR market. There are speculations that resources for VR support may have been redirected to fund the upcoming Minecraft movie.

Mojang announced that it will discontinue support for VR platforms in Minecraft, with PSVR support ending in 2025 and PC VR headsets being phased out after March 2025. The final VR update will be released by March 2025, after which players can continue to access updates for the standard PC version. Minecraft Bedrock edition first introduced Oculus Rift support in 2016, followed by Windows VR headsets in 2017. Meta removed Minecraft from its Rift platform in 2021, leaving the Windows Store version as the official source for PC VR support. Alternatives for PC VR users include the Vivecraft mod for Minecraft Java and the unofficial QuestCraft mod for Quest users, both of which have cross-play limitations. Mojang confirmed that after the final update, VR/MR devices will no longer be supported, but players can still access their worlds and Marketplace purchases on non-VR devices.

Mojang Studios is set to release a native version of Minecraft for PlayStation 5 on October 22. This version will fully utilize the PS5 hardware, resulting in significant performance improvements, including faster loading times reduced to approximately 12 seconds. It will support 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, offer an improved GUI scale for larger screens, and expand the render distance from 28 chunks to 36 chunks. The previous PS4 version required players to enable a preview option, which was not an ideal experience for PS5 users.

Mojang has announced the discontinuation of VR support for Minecraft on PlayStation VR, effective March 2025. This decision comes four years after the game's VR mode was launched on the platform. Players will still be able to access Minecraft without the VR component, and all previous Marketplace purchases will remain intact. PSVR users can maintain their VR experience by not updating the game and operating their PS4 in offline mode, although they will not receive future enhancements or support. Mojang plans to shift to a more frequent update schedule for Minecraft, moving away from a single major update each summer. Currently, PC is the only platform that will continue to offer the full Minecraft VR experience.
