Mojang’s big Minecraft VR mistake

Meta’s leaked ‘Avalanche’ could bring back Oculus Rift games, but I want more

Meta is actively working on bringing cloud VR gaming to Meta Quest, with a leaked app called Avalanche appearing briefly on the Quest Store. The company intends to launch cloud streaming on Quest when it's consumer-ready, enabling higher graphics than the Snapdragon XR2 on the Quest 3 and Quest 3S can natively handle. Minecraft hits players with harsh reality by ending VR support

The final VR update will be released by March 2025, after which players can continue to access updates for the standard PC version. Meta removed Minecraft from its Rift platform in 2021, leaving the Windows Store version as the official source for PC VR support. Alternatives for PC VR users include the Vivecraft mod for Minecraft Java and the unofficial QuestCraft mod for Quest users, both of which have cross-play limitations. Mojang confirmed that after the final update, VR/MR devices will no longer be supported, but players can still access their worlds and Marketplace purchases on non-VR devices.
