Players navigate through fictionalized scenarios inspired by real historical events, making decisions that impact the investigation while addressing moral and legal questions related to state authority and public safety. The game features a roguelike structure with procedurally generated storylines, ensuring a unique experience with each playthrough. Players will engage in police operations, conduct interrogations, and manage public perception, all within an authentic historical backdrop. SOKO 1977 is scheduled for release in 2027.

A new zero-day vulnerability in Microsoft Defender has been disclosed by a researcher known as "Chaotic Eclipse," who has created a proof-of-concept exploit called "RedSun." This vulnerability allows local privilege escalation to SYSTEM level on Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server when Microsoft Defender is active. The vulnerability has attracted attention from antivirus vendors, with some detecting it on VirusTotal due to an embedded EIRCAR in the executable. Chaotic Eclipse previously disclosed another vulnerability named BlueHammer, which also allowed local attackers to gain SYSTEM or elevated permissions. The researcher expressed dissatisfaction with Microsoft's vulnerability disclosure process, recounting negative interactions with the company. Windows 11 Taskbar Finally Movable? What You Need to Know!

Backdoored ‘secure’ messaging app leads to more arrests

Australian law enforcement arrested 55 individuals in a recent operation targeting organized crime, aided by intelligence from a backdoored messaging application called AN0M. AN0M was developed by the FBI and Australia’s Federal Police (AFP) after the shutdown of a service called Phantom Secure, which facilitated encrypted communications for criminals. AN0M users were unaware that the app contained a backdoor for authorities to access their messages. In 2022, the Australian High Court ruled that AN0M’s operations were legal, as it functioned as a closed system. The recent raids in South Australia were part of the ongoing efforts under "Operation Ironside," which has seen multiple waves of activity linked to AN0M. The operation led to the restraint of assets valued at AUD 8 million. The AFP continues to push for access to encrypted communications to improve public safety investigations.

Public Safety employee charged with child porn possession found through messaging app

Stephen E. Walker, a former member of the Bloomington Board of Public Safety, was arrested on October 2 for possession of child pornography following an investigation by the FBI that began in February. Walker, 34, previously worked for the Indiana Department of Correction for nearly nine years. The investigation stemmed from another suspect, identified as “BW,” who was arrested for distributing child pornography and revealed that he had shared explicit images of his 13-year-old stepdaughter with Walker via Kik Messenger. Between February 10 and 14, Walker received approximately 33 media files from BW, including five images classified as child sexual abuse material. Law enforcement traced Walker's Kik account and conducted a search of his residence and vehicle, seizing electronic devices for examination. Walker admitted to owning the Kik account and is currently under monitored conditional release with internet monitoring. His pretrial conference is set for November 11, 2025.

911 emergency calls now possible through messaging apps in these LGUs

Residents and visitors in Morong, Rizal, and Mambajao, Camiguin Island can now make emergency calls through messaging apps and social media platforms as part of a modernization initiative for emergency response systems. Mambajao activated its local 911 emergency hotline on February 27, becoming the first next-generation 911-enabled command center in Northern Mindanao, reducing response times to three to seven minutes. The Next Generation Advanced (NGA) 911 Philippines launched the NEXiS Message platform, allowing emergency calls via traditional voice methods, text messages, video calls, and popular applications like Facebook Messenger. This system consolidates incoming messages into a single platform, improving efficiency and response times while ensuring the security of shared information through encryption. NEXiS Message integrates with legacy and modern communication technologies and facilitates inter-agency collaboration. NGA 911 Philippines aims to expand next-generation 911 technology to more communities in the country and has received certification from the National Emergency Number Association (NENA).
