Android Auto’s weather experience is broken, and a raccoon meme isn’t going to fix it

In early September, the Authority Insights team at Android Authority discovered a potential feature for Android Auto that includes an animated raccoon displaying real-time weather conditions. The feature raises concerns about practicality and driver distraction, as it could detract from the user interface's efficiency, which is designed to present information clearly and quickly. Accurate weather information is crucial for drivers, as over 260,000 individuals are injured annually in weather-related accidents in the U.S., with around 3,800 fatalities. Currently, Android Auto's weather capabilities are limited, with some users lacking access to detailed weather information. Suggestions for improvement include an optional weather overlay on Google Maps or a snippet within navigation dialogs to provide timely weather updates without compromising navigation details. Enhancing voice capabilities for receiving weather updates could also improve safety. The feature discovered may not be implemented, but there is a call for a comprehensive weather alert system for Android Auto that prioritizes driver safety.

How I found tinnitus relief with free Android apps – and finally got some sleep

Two Android applications have been identified as helpful for tinnitus relief: one focuses on tonal therapy and the other on ambient sound generation. Both apps are free, with optional premium features. Tonal therapy involves using tailored sound frequencies to disrupt abnormal neural activity associated with tinnitus. Users must identify the pitch of their tinnitus, generate therapy tones, and play them in a staggered sequence. The Tonal Tinnitus Therapy app requires consistent use, with many users reporting significant symptom reduction over time. It offers a free version and a one-time purchase option for unlimited access. Recommended usage includes listening for at least four hours daily, starting with short sessions. The ambient noise generator app, such as Ambience: Sleep Sounds, creates soothing backgrounds to mask tinnitus sounds. It offers a variety of calming sounds and has both free and premium versions. Users can create personalized sound mixes to aid sleep, and reliance on the ambient generator may decrease as tonal therapy takes effect.

Android Auto may finally have a solution for weather info on smaller screens: Jimothy, the raccoon

The latest Android Auto beta, version 17.6.66, introduces a new weather experience featuring an animated raccoon named Jimothy, who will appear on the music player interface with a bubble displaying current weather conditions. The weather visuals will change based on the user's location, showing elements like rain, clouds, or sunshine. To access this feature, users must go to Settings > Theme and switch modes or activate Android Auto. There are concerns about Jimothy's visibility during critical weather alerts due to its small size.
