Rebellion's open-world shooter, Atomfall, launched in March and has attracted two million players, exceeding initial estimates. CEO Jason Kingsley noted that the game's success has led to discussions about expanding it into a series. Atomfall's availability on Microsoft's Game Pass significantly contributed to its success by enhancing discoverability and providing financial assurance. Kingsley mentioned that while the performance is encouraging, the decision for a sequel depends on resource availability. He emphasized the importance of aligning creative ambitions with budgetary constraints, stating that they cannot afford to spend 200 million on game development. Kingsley acknowledged that Atomfall has superficial similarities to other titles, particularly Fallout, and struggles to differentiate itself.

Rebellion's new game, Atomfall, has benefited from its inclusion in the Xbox Game Pass subscription service, which helped attract 1.5 million players since its March debut. CEO Jason Kingsley mentioned that Microsoft's financial support reduces risks by guaranteeing a certain level of income. However, he raised concerns about potentially cannibalizing hardcore gamers who might purchase new IPs. Kingsley emphasized the importance of budget management, stating that Rebellion cannot afford to invest large sums like 0 million into a single project and aims to keep budgets appropriate for their games. He acknowledged that larger games, like Assassin's Creed, will sell better but operate on significantly higher budgets.

Players in Atomfall awaken with amnesia in a post-apocalyptic landscape five years after the Windscale Fire, which has turned Cumberland into a quarantine zone controlled by the British government. The game features distinctive gameplay mechanics that emphasize survival action, where enemies do not have levels or health bars, and a well-placed headshot results in an instant kill. Players engage with a unique investigation system through an Investigation Journal that fills with 'Leads' as they explore, converse, and read documents. Interactions with NPCs allow for various resolutions without a morality system. Visually, the game presents mixed quality, with beautiful environments but rudimentary character models. Atomfall is optimized for smooth performance across platforms, maintaining a consistent 60fps on consoles.
