Microsoft has announced the rollout of Windows Recall, a feature for Windows 11 systems with KB5055627 on Copilot+ PCs. Recall uses AI to capture and store visual information from the screen, allowing users to find previously viewed content by describing it in everyday language. Initially unveiled in May 2024, Recall faced privacy concerns, leading Microsoft to pause its rollout for further testing. The feature is now optional and includes enhancements to filter out sensitive information. Recall is part of Windows 11 Build 26100 and will be widely available with the May 2025 Patch Tuesday Update.

Microsoft's Recall feature is being rolled out in preview mode to Windows Insiders using Copilot PCs powered by Snapdragon technology. The tool allows users to retrieve previously displayed content by searching for keywords, capturing screenshots throughout the day, and using AI for organization. The rollout faced delays due to privacy concerns, leading Microsoft to pause and review security measures. Users must opt in to save snapshots and enroll in Windows Hello for access, with the ability to control what is saved and pause saving at any time.

Windows Recall is a feature introduced in the Windows 11, version 24H2 update, exclusive to Copilot+ PCs, which captures snapshots of the user's screen at regular intervals and uses on-device AI to analyze the content. Microsoft has implemented a setting to filter out sensitive information from these snapshots, aiming to prevent the capture of data from applications or websites that handle sensitive information. However, a report indicated that Windows Recall still captured sensitive financial information, including credit card numbers, despite the filtering setting being enabled. Testing showed inconsistent results, as sensitive fields were captured in some contexts but not in others. Windows Recall is currently in beta and available through Microsoft's Windows 11 preview program, with Microsoft actively seeking user feedback to improve the feature before its official launch.

Microsoft has expanded its Recall AI feature to support Copilot+ PCs with Intel and AMD processors, following initial availability on Qualcomm-powered devices. The feature has stabilized after previous challenges, and the latest update (version 26120.2510) will be available to Intel and AMD users in the Windows Insiders Dev Channel. Users must manually enable snapshot functionality and can control the retention and deletion of snapshots, which do not record sensitive information. The update also includes security enhancements, requiring Windows Hello for identity authentication and the use of BitLocker and Secure Boot. Additionally, a new "Click to do" feature allows users to interact with snapshots more easily.

Microsoft is expanding its Recall AI feature to Copilot Plus PCs powered by Intel and AMD, following its initial rollout on Qualcomm-powered laptops. Recall captures screenshots of activities on a Copilot Plus PC, allowing users to search past work through natural language or a timeline. Users can enable snapshots and manage saved or deleted snapshots, with options to exclude specific apps and ensure sensitive information is not captured. Access to snapshots requires Windows Hello for identity verification, and BitLocker and Secure Boot must be enabled. Microsoft is also testing the Click to Do feature, which recognizes text and images in Recall snapshots for AI-driven actions. Additionally, Image Creator and Restyle Image features are being rolled out in the Photos app for Intel- and AMD-powered Copilot Plus PCs, along with Cocreator in Paint for generating AI-assisted images.
