Microsoft will conclude support for Windows 10 in October 2025, having launched in July 2015. Users can choose between a paid Extended Security Update (ESU) option or a complimentary alternative if they back up their systems to OneDrive. Users can redeem 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points to maintain updates until at least October 13, 2026, while businesses may extend support for up to three additional years through payment. As of May 2025, nearly 53% of PCs are expected to still run Windows 10, potentially facing security risks without action. The free OneDrive option offers only 5 GB of storage, necessitating an upgrade for larger backups. In July 2025, Microsoft will launch an ESU sign-up wizard for eligible users to choose their preferred support option.
