Bitdefender researchers have identified a malware campaign called Midnight Mimosa that can be embedded in the software of low-cost Android devices before sale. This malware operates stealthily, allowing it to install and remove applications without user knowledge, generate fraudulent advertising activity, and convert devices into residential-proxy relay nodes for a botnet. It has been found on MediaTek-based, white-label devices marketed under misleading names. Users should be cautious of suspiciously cheap devices and look for signs of infection, such as unexplained ads, unfamiliar apps, sudden battery drain, and discrepancies in model names. Standard uninstallation or factory resets may not remove this malware, and users are advised to update their devices, review app lists, and contact sellers for refunds or replacements if they suspect infection. Mobile protection solutions can help monitor app behavior and alert users to potential threats.

Microsoft has launched a significant enhancement to its Windows App, now allowing general availability for remote PC connections on Windows. Users can access both physical and virtual Windows PCs, integrating resources from Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Microsoft Dev Box into a single interface. The Windows App replaces the previous Remote Desktop app from the Microsoft Store and the standalone Remote Desktop client, while the traditional Remote Desktop Connection tool (mstsc.exe) remains supported. Users can connect to remote PCs by entering the computer's name or IP address, with options for display preferences and local resource redirection. All redirections are turned off by default for security, and connections can be saved and pinned to a Favorites list. Marvin Quinzon, Senior Program Manager at Microsoft, highlighted the importance of this update for users and organizations needing flexibility in cloud and traditional remote access scenarios.

Frosthaven Digital will release its full 1.0 version on October 15. The game has been enhanced with new features, classes, and missions to align closely with the original board game. Team Wargamer awarded it a 10/10 rating. The digital format allows players to complete scenarios in about 30 to 40 minutes, compared to two to three scenarios in five hours for the physical version. A "custom save" feature will enable players to edit saves and import campaigns from physical to digital formats. The 1.0 version is 99% mechanically accurate to the board game, with some minor visual adjustments. Players can unlock a new hero, the Shattersong, late in the game, which plays a supportive role. There are 137 missions in total, with 64 as the main story and many side quests available. The onboarding process will include a three-mission tutorial and a four-mission prequel.

Cookie’s Bustle, a video game released in 1999, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The game was discontinued in 2001 and has since developed a cult following. Recently, an exclusive gathering for fans was held to commemorate the anniversary, organized by QualityTime Consulting. The event featured live music, exclusive merchandise, and cookies shaped like the character Cookie. The game has faced ownership disputes, particularly with an individual named Brandon White, who attempted to erase its presence online through copyright claims. However, the Video Game History Foundation intervened, successfully combating these claims in March and restoring content related to the game. The future of Cookie’s Bustle remains uncertain, with no announcements regarding remasters or sequels made at the recent event.

In October 2026, Microsoft is addressing ongoing issues from its September updates for Windows 11, particularly related to audio decoding. Certain applications and games using Windows' built-in AC-3 (Dolby Digital) audio decoding may crash when users adjust volume or audio settings. This issue primarily affects older applications and games, while most modern apps are expected to function normally. Microsoft has issued multiple updates, including a mandatory Patch Tuesday update and an emergency patch, but some audio problems remain unresolved. The September updates also introduced a significant increase in security fixes, addressing 974 vulnerabilities compared to 86 in September 2025. Additionally, an emergency update disrupted the functionality of File History, which Microsoft is investigating. An optional update aimed to fix File History but led to new crashes in various applications. Microsoft is currently working on a resolution for the audio-decoding bug without a specified timeline.
