Meta Introduces New Security Tools to Protect Messenger and WhatsApp Users

Meta has introduced safety tools for Messenger and WhatsApp to enhance account security and support older adults against online scams during Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Since January, Meta's security teams have disrupted nearly 8 million scam-related accounts on Facebook and Instagram. The new tools allow users to easily report suspicious messages and automatically block scam-like accounts. Meta has partnered with the National Elder Fraud Coordination Center to improve information sharing and responses to scams targeting older Americans. Scams identified include fraudulent home services and impersonation of money recovery services. In 2023, Americans aged 60 and older lost .8 billion to fraud. Older adults are advised to pause before acting on unexpected messages, avoid sharing personal information, and use official customer service channels.

Texas YouTuber recreates San Antonio Tower Life Building in ‘Minecraft’

Eric, a Texas-based YouTuber known for his channel Mogswamp, has dedicated over 500 hours of gameplay and a year of planning to recreate the Tower Life building in Minecraft. He became fascinated with the building, the fifth tallest in San Antonio, due to its distinctive design and visibility across the city. To ensure accuracy in his recreation, Eric researched drone footage, historical background, blueprints, and took his own photographs. The San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology (SAMSAT) is using Minecraft Education to engage students in various subjects, offering summer camps that incorporate technology and education. The Tower Life building is currently undergoing renovations to convert vacant office floors into apartment units while remaining a prominent feature of the San Antonio skyline.

Griffith Observatory recreated in Minecraft. How you can play the map

The Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles has launched a free downloadable Minecraft map that allows users to explore its architecture virtually. The map is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux systems and offers a first-person perspective, featuring art, architecture, and educational exhibits. A scavenger hunt side-quest is included for interactive engagement. The observatory, dedicated in May 1935, underwent renovations and reopened in November 2006. It has been featured in various films and television shows, including "Rebel Without a Cause" and "La La Land."

Sterling Theater upgrading seating, preparing for ‘Minecraft’ movie pajama party

Renovations at the Sterling Theater are nearing completion, featuring new flooring and improved seating arrangements. Each of the theater's two viewing rooms will have 165 seats, including 20 luxurious recliners, 117 rocker-back lounge chairs, and 28 seats in a designated tabletop area. The renovation included the removal of outdated seating and asbestos abatement. The theater will reopen on April 3 with a premiere of "A Minecraft Movie," followed by screenings of "The Last Supper" and "The Amateur." Rocker-back lounge chairs will be first-come, first-served, while recliners and tabletop seating will incur an upcharge and be assigned upon ticket purchase. Tickets are available at the theater or online.
