A verified developer account has undergone legal identity and background checks to ensure apps can be traced back to legitimate individuals or businesses. The app is automatically installed on certain devices, such as the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Galaxy S26 Ultra, through Google System Updates, and users cannot opt out of it. Currently, the app is inactive for most users, with registration requirements beginning in select regions on September 30. Uninstalling the app may not prevent its reinstallation. The updated sideloading process requires users to enable Developer mode, confirm they are not being coerced, restart their device, wait 24 hours, and authenticate before installing an APK. Although this process may seem cumbersome, it aims to disrupt scammers' tactics. Users can still sideload via ADB, which is exempt from the new restrictions. Keeping the Android Developer Verifier on the device is advised until the sideloading restrictions are fully implemented.

Microsoft's Secure Boot certificates, including the Microsoft Corporation KEK CA 2011, will expire on June 24, 2026, followed by the Microsoft UEFI CA 2011 on June 27 and the Microsoft Windows Production PCA 2011 on October 19. New certificates issued in 2023 will replace these older ones. While devices will continue to operate and receive standard Windows updates, they will gradually lose access to critical security updates that protect against boot-level threats. After June 24, the ability to sign new disallowed signature database payloads with the old KEK will be lost, reducing the capacity to revoke compromised bootloaders. Users are advised to keep Windows and firmware updates current, while enterprises may face challenges managing diverse machine inventories for updates.

Windows CE Ported to Nintendo 64

Throaty Mumbo successfully ran Windows CE 2.11 on the Nintendo 64 by leveraging the shared architecture of both systems, which are based on the MIPS R4000 processor family. The project involved a month of reverse engineering, using Microsoft toolchains, custom hardware modifications, and debugging techniques. An EverDrive flash cartridge was used to load custom ROMs, and a USB connection facilitated uploads from a PC. Challenges included crashes with the initial EverDrive cartridge, which were resolved by upgrading to the EverDrive-64 X7. A custom kernel clone was created to troubleshoot issues with the stock Windows CE kernel, ultimately allowing the project to revert to the unmodified version.
