Sony pulling back from PC also means it’s pulling back from China

Sony has shifted away from porting singleplayer PlayStation titles to PC, raising concerns about competition with Valve. Alinea Insights reported that 42% of Death Stranding 2's PC sales came from China, its largest market on Steam. Approximately 39.48% of Steam users have their language set to English, while 21.85% prefer Simplified Chinese, representing over 30 million players. Shift Up, developer of Stellar Blade, announced they will not partner with Sony for the sequel, focusing on a global market strategy. Alinea's analysis shows that releasing games on PC does not harm PlayStation sales; Death Stranding 2 saw increased PS sales following its PC launch, and Stellar Blade also experienced a rise in PS5 sales despite not being discounted. Launching games on PC broadens the player base and enhances marketing opportunities.

Monster Hunter Wilds is barely hanging onto Capcom’s top 10 current best sellers and officially lost to Monster Hunter Rise, which notably didn’t wait months for PC fixes

Performance issues are affecting many players of Monster Hunter Wilds on PC, which is the game's largest sales platform. Capcom reported that Monster Hunter Rise has surpassed Wilds in sales rankings, with Wilds dropping from 10 million to under 500,000 copies sold in three months, now at 477,000 copies, while Rise has sold 389,000. Wilds has received negative reviews on Steam, currently holding a "Mostly Negative" label with 48% positive ratings. Capcom is working on CPU and GPU optimizations to address these performance issues. Despite Wilds having a larger active player base on Steam, the sales figures show a decline, and if optimizations do not improve the situation, Wilds may face further challenges. Once an arcade company, Capcom now sells most of its games on PC

Capcom has experienced a significant increase in PC game sales, surpassing console sales for the first time, with PC games accounting for 54% of total sales. In the last fiscal year, Capcom sold over 51 million software units, a 13% increase from the previous year, with 28 million being digital PC games and 18 million digital console games. Monster Hunter Wilds sold over 10 million units shortly after its release, while Monster Hunter World has lifetime sales of over 21 million, making it Capcom's most successful title. The Resident Evil 4 remake has surpassed 10 million in sales. Capcom plans to leverage its back catalog for growth, with recent releases including Onimusha 2 and the Capcom Fighting Collection 2, and Street Fighter 6 set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2. Despite the growth in PC sales, Capcom expects console revenue to remain slightly higher through 2027, with mobile revenue projected to outpace both PC and console earnings in the future.
