The Material Retrieval mechanic in Monster Hunter Wilds becomes available after reaching High Rank and completing the main storyline. Players can unlock it by completing specific sidequests, with the first two being "Beware the Gypceros" and "Aida's Apprehensions." Villagers in the Forbidden Lands assist players by gathering essential items. Resting in a tent refreshes the items collected by villagers, and setting them to gather 'Any' provides a variety of items. The Gathering Boost mechanic is activated by helping a settlement in distress, allowing item gatherers to collect resources at an accelerated rate and enhancing item trading limits in the region.

Layered armor in Monster Hunter Wilds unlocks after reaching High Rank, which is achieved by defeating the Yian Kut-Ku in the Scarlet Forest. Players can access the Equipment Appearance menu from their tent to toggle armor visibility and use pre-order DLC cosmetics. Crafting High Rank armor automatically transforms it into layered armor, simplifying the process compared to previous titles. To equip layered armor or adjust visibility, players navigate to the Appearance Menu in their tent, where they can select layered armor, toggle display options, change colors, and add pendants to weapons.

Whoppers can be found in the lake by area 17 in the Scarlet Forest, specifically above the dam. The term "whopper" refers to various sizable fish, including Gajau, Speartuna, and Great Trevally. To catch a whopper, equip the fishing rod, use the Starduster Rig lure, and follow these steps: pull the rod in the direction the fish swims when it bites, reel it in after it tires, and move the left stick in the direction the fish lands if it jumps. Fishing in open areas free from obstacles is recommended, and using a level one Ranger jewel can help. Successfully catching a whopper rewards players with five gunpowderfish scales, five honey, and 200 Guild Points.

Players can find Dapperwings in Monster Hunter Wilds near the base camp in the Scarlet Forest, specifically in areas 1 and 2, on low branches. Additional locations include the columns at the base of the waterfall in area 15 and above the waterfall in area 17. To capture a Dapperwing, players should use the capture net when the border of the capture box glows orange. After capturing one, players return to Samin to receive 10 Blue Mushrooms, five honey, and 50 Guild Points.
