Powerful Windows 11 app Wintoys just got significantly better with long list of improvements

Microsoft has enhanced the Windows experience with utilities like the Media Creation Tool and PowerToys, while third-party applications like Wintoys, an unofficial counterpart to PowerToys, have also been updated. The latest version of Wintoys features performance improvements from upgrades to .NET 10 and Windows App SDK 2.3.1, resulting in a 30% reduction in RAM usage on the Services page, a 20% decrease on the Apps page, and a 10% improvement on the Startup entries page. Key updates include the ability to enable or disable the recommended section in the Start menu, manage recent items tracking, and a new Device metadata option to prevent unauthorized app installations. The Services page has been rewritten for better memory usage and real-time updates. Additional improvements include enhanced keyboard navigation, new acrylic backdrop features for Windows 10 and 11, and various bug fixes for system settings, network stats, and overall stability. The updated version of Wintoys is available for download via the Microsoft Store.

The Steam client was hurting PC gaming on Android — Valve’s VR headset accidentally solved it

Playing Windows games on Android has become feasible due to Winlator and open-source technologies like Wine, Box64, and DXVK. User-friendly applications such as GameHub and GameNative have emerged, enhancing mobile gaming experiences to rival dedicated handheld consoles. A major challenge was the reliance on the x86 Windows Steam client, which was resource-intensive on mobile devices. GameNative 1.0 introduced an experimental feature that eliminates the need for the desktop Steam client by using Valve's native Android libraries, improving the gaming experience significantly. Valve released Steamworks SDK version 1.63 in November 2025, which included native ARM64 libraries for Android, allowing for essential Steam functionalities without a translation layer. GameNative integrated these libraries, replacing the desktop client with a more efficient "bionic" Steam client that operates without a user interface, streamlining DRM and matchmaking processes. GameNative now supports Steam Guard TOTP sign-in, enabling smooth authentication and access to the user's Steam library. It downloads games natively, supports cloud saves, and is compatible with most single-player games with Steam DRM. The application boasts a high compatibility rate, with 221 out of 241 games in one user's library showing as compatible. GameNative 1.0 has improved performance with a Vulkan renderer and reworked controller stack. Despite its success, GameNative is not yet available on the Play Store, with nearly a million users sideloading the application. Developers aim to create a Play Store version that complies with Google's policies for easier installation.

Making Windows a developer platform, again

Setting up a PC with the base Dev Config has been streamlined for developers, utilizing the Winget configuration service to install applications, execute updates, and apply developer settings on Windows. Users can access setup scripts by cloning a GitHub repository or downloading a zip archive, with clear instructions provided by Microsoft. The installation may require a reboot during the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) installation, but the script resumes automatically afterward. The process installs applications such as PowerShell, Git, GitHub command-line interfaces, Windows App SDK, Visual Studio Code, and language support for Node.js, Python, and .NET. It also includes developer-friendly fonts and a theme engine for Windows Terminal, along with options for customizing File Explorer and the Windows Task Bar. After WSL installation, developers can use WSL Comfort scripts to install additional tools and personalize their Windows Terminal experience. This utility has two phases: the Windows component configures WSL and Ubuntu, while the Linux component fine-tunes the WSL environment, allowing for zsh and starship terminal display tools. It also integrates popular command-line interfaces and supports the Homebrew package installer, targeting existing Ubuntu instances without needing a new Linux distribution installation.

pgAdmin 4 Released With Fixes for Seven Security Vulnerabilities and New Features

pgAdmin 4 version 9.16 has been released, featuring 64 bug fixes and addressing seven security vulnerabilities (CVE-2026-12044 to CVE-2026-12050). Key vulnerabilities include SQL injection flaws and cross-site scripting issues. CVE-2026-12044 involved SQL injection risks in dialog templates, while CVE-2026-12045 allowed attackers to bypass read-only transaction restrictions in the AI Assistant feature. Authentication issues were fixed in CVE-2026-12046, and client-side vulnerabilities were addressed in CVE-2026-12048 and CVE-2026-12047. Additional vulnerabilities included an open redirect in multi-factor authentication (CVE-2026-12049) and another SQL injection flaw in restore point functionality (CVE-2026-12050). Usability improvements include colorized panel headers, middle-click tab closing, and enhancements to OAuth2 login. New DirectX Dump Files tool will make debugging crashes easier GPU + Windows

Microsoft has launched a public preview of DirectX Dump Files, designed to improve the debugging process for GPU crashes on Windows. The .dxdmp files are created when a hardware error is detected and contain hardware snapshots, driver data, Direct3D runtime context, and application user data. Developers need to meet specific requirements, including using Windows 24H2 or 25H2 with update KB5089573 or later, Windows 26H1 with update KB5089570 or later, Agility SDK Update Package 1.721.1-preview, and enabling developer mode. Additionally, AMD Software AgilitySDK Developer Preview Edition 26.10.07.02 is required for AMD graphics cards, along with compatible benchmark drivers from Intel, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm, and PIX version 2606.18-preview for analyzing dump files. The tool is currently focused on gathering developer feedback and is not intended for retail game integration. Developers can choose between three operational modes: NOOVERHEAD, MEDIUMOVERHEAD, and HIGH_OVERHEAD. The full launch is expected in fall 2026.

IT teams can manage MXC policies through Entra ID and Intune, while Defender and Purview provide protection and observability. The MXC framework is built on Microsoft's security initiatives, including Secure Boot and passwordless sign-in, allowing agents to inherit a secure foundation.
