WhatsApp users unable to send messages and connect to app amid online outage

A significant WhatsApp outage is affecting users in the UK and other countries, with a surge in complaints reported. Downdetector indicates that around 49% of users are unable to send messages, and 46% are experiencing issues with the app. The outage has escalated, with over 100 users in the UK reporting problems, up from six an hour earlier. Users from India and the United States have also reported disruptions, with over 3,000 complaints in India, primarily related to message-sending issues. Complaints have been voiced on social media from users in Canada, Brazil, and Singapore. Some users are also facing challenges with other Meta-owned platforms like Facebook and Instagram. This outage follows a previous incident earlier this year that affected at least 68,000 users.

Are Facebook, Instagram Down? Users report problems with Meta

Since 1 p.m. ET, users nationwide have reported outages affecting Facebook and Instagram, with over 105,000 reports for Facebook, 11,000 for Messenger, and 70,590 for Instagram by 1:20 p.m. ET. Most issues are linked to the mobile app, with 78 percent of Instagram users reporting app-related problems. Chicago is particularly affected, although reports come from various regions. Meta confirmed the outages, stating they are aware of the technical issues impacting user access and are working to resolve them. WhatsApp reported 8,234 outages, with 82 percent experiencing message-sending issues, while Threads had 892 outages, with 70 percent attributed to the app. This is not the first outage for Meta, which previously faced similar issues nine months ago.
