ASUS Googlebook 14 hands-on: How does Google’s desktop OS feel to a lifelong Windows user? Microsoft should pay attention, but it doesn’t need to worry.

In September, Google introduced the 'Googlebook,' a premium laptop alternative to its Chromebooks, developed in collaboration with OEMs like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. The ASUS Googlebook 14, priced at ,299, features a lightweight design, weighing approximately 0.97 kg (2.13 lbs), and a 14-inch OLED display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and brightness of up to 450 nits. It includes a comfortable keyboard with 1.5mm key travel and a 6-inch haptic touchpad. However, usability challenges exist, such as the Caps Lock key activating a context menu and the lack of a dedicated delete key. App compatibility issues have also been noted, with some applications performing poorly compared to their desktop versions. Despite these challenges, the Googlebook shows potential for improvement with future updates.

Use This Hack to Get the Pixel’s AI Dictation on Any Android Phone

Google's AI-powered dictation feature, Rambler, refines spoken words into polished text, eliminating filler words and enhancing grammar. Currently, Rambler is exclusive to the Pixel 11 series. Developer Akshay Kadam has created a modified version of Gboard called PixelBoard, which includes Rambler's features and can run alongside the standard Gboard without requiring device rooting. PixelBoard can be installed via three methods: downloading directly from GitHub, sideloading via USB, or patching the stock Gboard APK. Users can enable PixelBoard in their device settings and access Rambler by selecting it from the dictation options.

This unofficial port brings Pixel 11’s Rambler to any Android phone

Google's Rambler feature, designed to enhance voice typing by using AI to eliminate filler words, correct grammar, and format text, is now accessible on more devices thanks to developer Akshay Kadam's modified Gboard APK called PixelBoard. Users can experience Rambler by installing PixelBoard and setting it as their default keyboard. The Pixel 11 series introduced Rambler along with other AI-driven features. However, PixelBoard is not an official Google application, posing security and privacy risks, and there is a chance that Google may restrict this workaround in future updates. Kadam's GitHub project offers an unofficial way to access Rambler, but users should be cautious due to the risks associated with modified software.

OpenAI’s own advice during its October 9 Android outage: use ChatGPT on the web

On the evening of October 9, users attempting to access ChatGPT on Android devices encountered the message "This content is unavailable in this version of the app" due to an issue from OpenAI. The problem began at 21:00:39Z and lasted for three hours and 26 minutes, concluding at 00:26:44Z on October 10. OpenAI advised users to switch to the web version while they worked on a fix for older app versions. A second major incident occurred 48 minutes later, locking workspace administrators out of plugin settings from 21:48:34Z to 23:26:59Z on October 9, totaling one hour and 38 minutes. Both incidents overlapped entirely, with the Android issue persisting for an additional hour after the admin issue was resolved. As of 21:42 UTC on October 10, a third minor incident regarding "Delayed Costs data in the Compliance API" remained unresolved, having started at 17:23:18Z on October 9. OpenAI reported that some customers might experience incomplete Costs data while the backlog was addressed, with the catch-up process expected to continue through October 11. ChatGPT usage and API Platform requests were unaffected, and the overall status was designated as "Partial System Degradation." Additionally, a more significant outage occurred on September 29, lasting five hours and 22 minutes and affecting 30 components, which was more extensive than the incidents on October 9. Neither of the major incidents on October 9 impacted the API.

Steam Week in Review: The curious case of Wonder Boy in Monster Land’s dubious PC debut

Wonder Boy in Monster Land, originally released in Japanese arcades in 1987 and later on the Sega Master System, has been listed on Steam by Retro Maniac, a developer with a limited portfolio. The title is misspelled as "Wonderboy," raising concerns about the legitimacy of the release. The ownership of the Wonder Boy franchise is split between LAT Corp, which holds the intellectual property rights, and Sega, which retains the trademark. This dual ownership complicates any re-release under the Wonder Boy name, as seen with previous titles that successfully navigated licensing agreements. The original arcade version was released as Adventure Island in the U.S., leading to confusion about the game's lineage. Concerns about the Retro Maniac port were raised by the Wonder Boy Universe fan account and composer Shinichi Sakamoto, who noted it is not available in Japan and may be unauthorized. The port appears to be a ROM running within the MAME arcade emulator. The listing is reportedly facing a DMCA takedown process initiated by Sega or LAT Corp.

Which older Samsung Galaxy devices still get software updates in 2026?

Samsung links software support to the price of the device, with flagships getting up to seven years of updates, midrange phones getting five to six years, and budget models getting up to four years. The A-series models are affected the most by this difference. Samsung does not announce when support ends, so users must check their model's support status. Once security patches end, the phone is vulnerable to hackers and apps may stop working. It is important to check a phone's support date before purchasing.

Someone ported Pixel 11’s Rambler voice-to-text to other Android phones

Google's Pixel 11 and the Googlebook feature the Rambler voice-to-text functionality, which uses AI to improve traditional voice-to-text capabilities by refining spoken words into coherent text with proper grammar and formatting. Rambler is currently exclusive to the Pixel 11 series, but a developer has ported it to other Android devices through an app called "PixelBoard," a modified version of Gboard. Users can sideload this app from GitHub, but they should proceed at their own risk. Testing on a Galaxy Z Fold 8 showed that the app functions effectively, similar to Rambler on the Pixel 11. It is unclear if Google will extend Rambler support to other devices, and alternatives like Microsoft’s SwiftKey are available on the Play Store.

Googlebook improving ‘Better Together’ Android sync features, Samsung support rolling out

The launch of Googlebook has generated interest due to its integration with Android devices, but initial rollout revealed inconsistencies in the "Better Together" sync features. Google is addressing these issues through updates, including support for Samsung devices. Core functionalities linking Android phones with Googlebook include app streaming, notification synchronization, and the "Continue On" feature, though not all features are performing as expected. Users have reported that while Instant Hotspot works effectively, other features are slow or unavailable. Google has announced improvements to simplify the setup process and resolved a bug related to the QR code used for pairing. Users should ensure their Google Play Services is updated to version 26.37 and Cross-device Services to version 1.0.1346. Initially, there was a lack of support for Galaxy smartphones, but recent updates have allowed Samsung users to utilize the "Better Together" features. To maximize the experience with Googlebook, users should confirm their phone runs Android 17, check Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections, use a private home Wi-Fi network, and verify relevant app versions and settings. Some Samsung Galaxy users have reported successful integration of the features following updates, indicating that initial compatibility issues have been resolved.
