A new Android malware threat, codenamed Manic, poses significant risks to Ukrainian banks, government services, and messaging applications, with a reach extending to Russian and European financial institutions, global fintech platforms, cryptocurrency services, and military communication channels. Manic combines Android banking malware and mobile spyware, targeting sensitive applications and enabling comprehensive device takeover. It features a novel Wi-Fi mesh technique for data relay through compromised devices and utilizes phishing sites and dropper apps. The malware originated in February 2026, with initial development leading to its first deployment by late May. It monitors 169 package IDs related to banks, payment services, and messaging applications, primarily affecting Ukrainian targets but also impacting applications in Russia and Europe. Manic can infiltrate commercial and military messaging apps, track locations, monitor notifications, and collect files. It exploits Android's accessibility services to capture sensitive data and employs a store-and-forward relay mechanism for data exfiltration through nearby compromised devices. Google has stated that no apps containing this malware are found on Google Play, and Android users are protected by Google Play Protect.

The experience of using YouTube on Android Auto is currently limited, primarily allowing audio playback while driving. Google announced plans for enhancements during the Android Show: I/O Edition event in May, which will enable HD video playback at 60 frames per second when the vehicle is stationary and transition to audio-only mode when in motion. The update will also feature a revamped interface and improved integration with brands like BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, and Hyundai. Users can access audio from YouTube videos while driving, but full video playback is available only for YouTube Premium subscribers. An update later this year will bring native YouTube support to Android Auto, allowing users to watch videos while parked. Unofficial methods like the Fermata Auto app or AA Browser can provide video playback while parked, but these are not officially supported solutions.

Users may have noticed an app named “Android Pulse” in their Google Play updates, which appears as a blank square. This is a first-party Google application for "Defining anomalies for debugging," aimed at facilitating rule distribution for anomaly detection related to critical system resource consumption within the Android operating system and its applications. The app is integrated into Pixel devices as “Pulse” and has a heart rate-inspired green icon. “Android Pulse” has been available since March, with over 10 million downloads, and this is the first time it has appeared in the Play Store for manual installation.
