Microsoft's latest Beta Insider build (22635.4445) for Windows 11 introduces a universal share button, which is disabled by default but allows users to share files directly from the Start Menu and Taskbar with a right-click. Users can enable this feature using ViveTool with specific commands. Additionally, Windows 11 supports file sharing to Android devices via the context menu. However, the new "Edit with Paint" option in the context menu has received criticism for cluttering the interface and slowing response times, leading to calls for improved performance compared to Windows 10.

Google has updated its Pixel Studio app for the Pixel 9 series, introducing a feature that allows users to share images directly from other applications for editing, without needing to download them first. The new version (1.1.001.672728916.05) includes a sharing option that appears when users tap the share button in compatible apps, enhancing the editing workflow. However, the sharing feature only works with apps that support direct image file sharing, excluding platforms like Instagram and standard web browsers. Additionally, Pixel Studio does not support images with human subjects due to privacy and ethical considerations. Users have experienced occasional issues with opening images on the first attempt, indicating that the feature may still require further development.

Microsoft has updated its Link to Windows app to improve file sharing between Android devices and Windows PCs. The new version allows users to see their Windows PCs directly on the Android share sheet, facilitating easier file transfers without navigating through the “send to PC” menu. Users can now select a file, tap the share button, and choose “Link to Windows [Send to PC]” to wirelessly send files to their connected Windows PCs, which are stored in the “Phone Link” directory within the Downloads folder. The update utilizes the Android API for Direct Share targets, enabling quicker access to frequently used Windows PCs. Users need at least version 1.24032.518.0 on their Android devices and version 1.24032.156.0 on their Windows PCs for this feature. Additionally, a recent Windows update added a “My Phone” icon in the Windows share menu, allowing users to manage Android files directly from Windows file explorer.

The latest beta version of Google Play services has introduced a potential drag-and-drop feature for Quick Share, which currently does not support this capability on larger Android devices like tablets and foldables. This feature, still in development, aims to simplify the file-sharing process by allowing users to drag multiple files to a recipient's name, similar to functionality available on Windows. However, actual file transfers are not yet operational. Quick Share facilitates file sharing across Android phones, tablets, Chromebooks, and Windows PCs, but users currently face a multi-step process to share files on larger devices.
