Microsoft is piloting new features in Windows 11, focusing on file sharing and search functionalities as part of the Windows Insider program. A notable enhancement is a drag tray that simplifies file sharing by allowing users to drag files to the top of the screen, revealing frequently used applications for easy transfer. Users can also access a "More" button to open the Windows share menu for additional options. Additionally, the Windows Search functionality is being improved for Copilot+ PCs, enabling users to find cloud-stored photos using descriptive terms, currently available for personal OneDrive accounts with plans to support third-party cloud storage in the future. To try these features, users must enroll in the Windows Insider program and ensure hardware compatibility with the beta version. They can register on the Microsoft website and follow prompts to join. Participation involves installing beta software, which may lead to potential issues, so backing up data is recommended. Users can experience the drag tray and new Start menu views by selecting the beta channel and updating to Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4950 (KB5052078). The enhanced search feature is available through Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.3291 (KB5052080) for Copilot+ PCs, which is currently an optional update but will be promoted to recommended status later this year. The update also includes improvements to Windows Recall and a new Trim tool for editing screen recordings using the Snipping Tool.
