Google is discontinuing the Share apps feature on its Play Store, which allowed users to share applications with nearby individuals using Quick Share. Introduced in 2022, this feature had limitations, such as the inability to share paid applications, books, movies, age-restricted apps, or corporate applications. The retirement was confirmed in the December release notes for version 44.1 of the Play Store. Users can still share Android applications using the Files by Google app with Quick Share. The removal of the Play Store's app sharing option will be gradual.

Users can now share recently accessed files directly from the taskbar by right-clicking on an app icon, which reveals a sharing option in the jumplist. Additionally, a share option is being tested in the Start menu's Details pane and Recommended section. To enable these features, users can use ViveTool with specific feature IDs: id:45738940 for the taskbar and id:46493758 (or id:48433719) for the Start menu.

Google has updated its Pixel Studio app for the Pixel 9 series, introducing a feature that allows users to share images directly from other applications for editing, without needing to download them first. The new version (1.1.001.672728916.05) includes a sharing option that appears when users tap the share button in compatible apps, enhancing the editing workflow. However, the sharing feature only works with apps that support direct image file sharing, excluding platforms like Instagram and standard web browsers. Additionally, Pixel Studio does not support images with human subjects due to privacy and ethical considerations. Users have experienced occasional issues with opening images on the first attempt, indicating that the feature may still require further development.
