Windows 11 migration shows surprising surge for some businesses – but for once, desktop is leading the way

Windows 11 market share stalls ahead of Windows 10 cutoff

User adoption of Windows 11 is slowing, with its market share decreasing from a peak of 43.72 percent in May to 43.22 percent in early June 2025. In contrast, Windows 10's market share has increased to 53.19 percent. Expert Kieren Jessop from Canalys notes that while the figures may seem concerning, they align with forecasts, and a monthly increase in Windows 11 adoption of 0.5 to 1.5 percent is anticipated through October. Canalys projects an 8.1 percent growth in commercial shipments of Windows-only devices in the US for 2025, but a decline in consumer shipments is expected, with a -2.5 percent decrease in the US and a -0.7 percent decrease globally.

Windows 10 support ends soon, but shockingly, 35% of SMBs are either clueless or refusing to upgrade their systems

Experts warn that the lack of upgrade plans could lead to significant financial repercussions for SMBs, especially with rising tariffs and potential supply constraints. A structured approach for transitioning to Windows 11 is recommended, including assessing current hardware, evaluating application compatibility, developing a timeline for upgrades, budgeting for investments, training staff, and implementing endpoint security strategies.

Other companies like AYANEO and OneXSugar have also announced new devices, but it is uncertain if they will be available in the U.S. due to the tariffs. There’s a quiet PC boom happening – thanks to Windows 10 and the tariffs

In the first quarter of 2025, PC shipments increased by 12.6% compared to the same quarter in 2024, with over 16 million computers dispatched. All six leading PC vendors in the United States reported growth in shipments: HP shipped 4.1 million PCs (25.1% market share), Dell shipped 3.9 million (23.9% market share), Lenovo shipped 3.1 million (19.2% market share), Apple shipped 2.6 million (15.9% market share), Acer shipped 944,000 (5.8% market share), and ASUS shipped 464,000 (2.8% market share). Globally, PC shipments reached 58.9 million units, a 4.8% increase from 56.2 million the previous year. Lenovo led the global market, followed by HP, Dell, Apple, Acer, and ASUS. In Japan, demand for PCs, particularly for replacing Windows 11 systems and the adoption of Chromebooks, drove a shipment growth of 15.6%.

Windows 11 turns the tide against Windows 10
