Microsoft has announced the removal of WordPad from all editions of Windows starting with Windows 11 version 24H2 and Windows Server 2025. The company recommends using Microsoft Word for rich text documents and Windows Notepad for plain text documents. Additionally, Microsoft has phased out AllJoyn, which included the Windows.Devices.AllJoyn API namespace and other related components. AllJoyn was an open-source protocol for Internet of Things scenarios, sponsored by the AllSeen Alliance until its merger with the Open Connectivity Foundation in 2016.

Microsoft has announced the discontinuation of legacy digital rights management (DRM) services within Windows Media Player, Silverlight, Windows 7, and Windows 8. Users will no longer be able to play or stream DRM-protected content through these applications. To access DRM-protected media, users on Windows 7 or Windows 8 must upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 11. Users of Windows Media Player will need to transition to alternative media player applications that support DRM, such as VLC media player.

Microsoft has announced the discontinuation of Legacy Digital Rights Management (DRM) services for Windows Media Player and Silverlight on Windows 7 and Windows 8, halting the streaming and playback of DRM-protected content in these applications. This affects the playback of personal CD rips and streaming from a Silverlight or Windows 8 client to an Xbox 360. Additionally, Microsoft plans to retire Paint 3D in November.
