The Sims loses one of its most iconic games as EA confirms final update and imminent delisting

Katy Perry recorded "Hot N Cold" for The Sims 2 expansion pack, Apartment Life, and later contributed to a themed stuff pack in The Sims 3. The Sims 4 includes over 100 Simlish tracks, showcasing both classic and contemporary music, with the Life and Death expansion introducing British indie rock band The Last Dinner Party. The franchise continues to integrate pop culture through its unique musical offerings.

The Sims co-creator Tim LeTourneau has passed away

Tim LeTourneau, a significant figure in the creation of The Sims, passed away, as announced by his wife, Donna. He began his career in the gaming industry in 1998 at Maxis, where he served as a senior producer for eight years and contributed to the success of The Sims franchise. In 2006, he moved to Electronic Arts, becoming an executive producer and later Vice President and General Manager of The Sims Studio in 2008. In March 2011, he joined Zynga as Vice President of studios and was promoted to Chief Creative Officer within two years. After a brief stint at Storm8 as Chief Creative Officer, he returned to Zynga as Senior Vice President of games. In March 2017, he became Director of Product Design at Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment until his departure in 2021. He then served as Senior Advisor at Fortis Games. Following his passing, a former Maxis team member shared a tribute on Reddit, highlighting the familial atmosphere LeTourneau created at the studio.

EA hits $2.03bn net revenue for Q2

Electronic Arts (EA) reported a net revenue of .025 billion for the quarter ending September 30th, a year-on-year increase of 5.8 percent. Of this total, 35 percent came from full game sales and 65 percent from live services and other revenue streams. The Sims franchise contributed significantly, gaining 15 million new users and exceeding net bookings expectations. EA's net bookings for the quarter reached .079 billion, a 14 percent increase from the previous year. CEO Andrew Wilson noted the strong quarter and record Q2 net bookings, while CFO Stuart Canfield indicated that the company is raising its FY25 outlook due to exceeding guidance.

There won’t actually be a Sims 5 because EA is going to ‘disrupt the sequel model’ by shoving The Sims 4, Project Rene, and two other games into one ‘massive Sims platform’

EA's president, Laura Miele, announced a dedicated team to address bugs and enhance The Sims 4, including updates to its core technology. Maxis is preparing to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Sims series in February and will host a Behind The Sims presentation in January to provide more insights into Project Rene.
