Since the Tricky Trials update in June 2024, Minecraft has been at version 1.21, as Mojang Studios shifted to more frequent, smaller updates instead of large annual releases. Mojang is revamping its version numbering system to better reflect this new update cadence, with the latest game drop titled "The Copper Age" designated as version 1.21.9 for Java Edition and 1.21.110 for Bedrock Edition. The first snapshot for the upcoming Mounts of Mayhem update will be labeled as 25.4-snapshot-1. The familiar "Minecraft 1.x.x" format will be retired, with the Mounts of Mayhem update scheduled for release on December 9 and the first update of the new year recognized as Minecraft 26.1. Mojang has also pledged to eliminate code obfuscation from Minecraft: Java Edition to enhance the modding experience.

Halo Studios has announced the cessation of new updates for Halo Infinite four years post-launch, shifting focus to Halo: Campaign Evolved. The final update will be released on November 18, featuring accelerated XP, Spartan Points, and rank progression. The game will transition to smaller updates, which has raised concerns about its long-term viability. The June update introduced a nostalgic Halo 3 mode that received positive feedback. Former director Chris Lee had stated that Halo Infinite would be the last standalone release for the foreseeable future, and Microsoft has not yet revealed the next chapter in the Halo series, which will be developed using Unreal Engine. Halo: Campaign Evolved is the only upcoming title in the franchise. Halo Infinite explored innovative modes, including a third-person perspective, and influenced perceptions about battle passes and user-generated content.

Minecraft has released patch 1.21.10, introducing the Copper Age and a golem-sized cleaner for players. This update is significant as it is the first time in over a decade that a Minecraft update has reached double digits in its versioning. The patch focuses on bug fixes related to pistols, wind dynamics, and teleportation. It is the tenth patch in the 1.21 series, raising concerns within the community about the timeline for the next major update, version 1.22, which may not arrive this year. The upcoming Windows 11 25H2 update is expected to be a modest enhancement rather than a major overhaul, continuing to use the Germanium codebase established with 24H2. A preview build, specifically build 27842 from the Canary Channel, has been identified, and references to GE25H2 were found in the AppraiserRes.dll file, which assesses PC compatibility for the new version. The update is anticipated to arrive in the latter half of the year, similar to previous incremental updates. Concerns exist regarding the stability of 25H2 compared to 24H2, which faced installation issues and compatibility problems. Windows 10 will reach the end of regular support on October 14, 2025, prompting users to transition to Windows 11. Smaller updates like enablement packages tend to present fewer stability risks, and Microsoft has not officially confirmed any details about 25H2 or its update process for versions 23H2 and 24H2. Speculation about Windows 12 continues, but its timeline remains uncertain.
