Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.3360 (Dev and Beta Channels)

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.3360 (KB5052090) has been released to both the Dev and Beta Channels. This update introduces enhancements based on Windows 11, version 24H2, initially available as optional for Beta Channel users. A transition option from the Dev Channel to the Beta Channel is available but will close as higher build numbers are released. New features include support for lock screen widgets for users in the European Economic Area (EEA), with a new group policy to disable these widgets. Task Manager will now use standard metrics for CPU utilization, and sharing capabilities have been enhanced in File Explorer. Fixes include resolving issues in File Explorer, Taskbar, Remote Desktop, and Settings. Known issues involve incorrect build version display after a PC reset and difficulties with the Recall feature. An update for the Snipping Tool introduces a trim feature for screen recordings. Windows Insiders in both channels will receive updates based on Windows 11, version 24H2 through an enablement package. Features may evolve or be removed during development.

Previewing More Copilot+ Experiences with Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.2510 (KB5048780) has been released to the Dev Channel, introducing new features for AMD and Intel®-powered Copilot+ PCs, including the Recall feature and an expansion of Click to Do (Preview). To join the Dev Channel, users must register for the Windows Insider Program, link their Microsoft account, select the Dev Channel, and check for updates. The Recall feature allows users to find apps, websites, images, or documents by describing their content and includes timeline control for revisiting past activities. The Cocreator feature in Microsoft Paint enables AI-assisted artwork generation from text prompts. The Photos app has been updated with Image Creator and Restyle Image features for generating new images and applying artistic styles to existing photos, respectively. Click to Do has been enhanced with new activation methods and intelligent text actions, allowing users to summarize or rewrite text. Additional changes include a modernized Windows Hello experience, improvements to the system tray, and various fixes for audio and application stability. Known issues include problems with Recall and Click to Do functionalities, which will be addressed in future updates. The Microsoft Store now supports direct updates for Win32 apps.

Windows 11 Recall finally arrives, but with one new problem

The Windows 11 Recall feature is currently in a testing phase and has faced significant challenges, particularly with saving snapshots necessary for its operation. Users have reported delays of several minutes in saving snapshots, and some, like Tom Warren, have experienced issues where snapshots do not save at all. Microsoft has advised users to restart their computers as a potential solution to these problems. The Recall feature, which aims to provide a "photographic memory" for PCs, is available only to beta testers on specific devices and has been delayed due to security and privacy concerns. Other companies, such as Google, are also developing similar AI functionalities.
