No Man's Sky is a vast space game that continues to expand, while StarRupture has recently launched in Steam Early Access as a more focused space survival experience. StarRupture features a single open-world planet for exploration, resource mining, base building, and combat against alien creatures. Players can choose from four classes: biologist, scientist, soldier, and engineer, and must manage hunger, thirst, toxicity, and health while crafting weapons. The game emphasizes automation, allowing players to build interconnected machines powered by solar energy, but they must also contend with extreme heat blasts. StarRupture is priced at .99 / £13.59 with a 20% discount. The developer, Creepy Jar, has plans for future updates, including map expansions, new weapons, resources, and a winter-themed biome in version 1.0.

Space sandbox game sequel gets the transformative update I’ve been waiting for, with a full star system and planets

The latest update for Space Engineers 2, known as the Vertical Slice 2 (VS2), introduces the first full implementation of planets and enhances the survival experience. The update features the Almagest star system, including the brown dwarf star Delfos and the planets Verdure and Kemik, which offer diverse biomes and destructible elements. A new survival mode is introduced with a storyline, base contract systems, and an innovative building system that allows players to create holographic designs before committing resources. The update also includes a grid power system, various consumables, and tools for ore detection and drilling. The VS2 update will launch on December 1 and is currently available at a 20% discount until December 8. Future features, such as wheels, weapons, and mechanical blocks, are planned for the VS2.2 'Survival Extensions.'

NYC students use Minecraft to reimagine inclusive, sustainable spaces in citywide challenge

The all-girl team from P.S. 86 participated in the Minecraft Education Challenge for the second year, focusing on designing a sustainable and inclusive space at Orchard Beach. The challenge, part of the Battle of the Boroughs, had 3,259 applicants, with 175 students in the semi-finals. The team, consisting of sixth graders Yoselin, Zeynabou, Pearl, Emily, and Sadika, was guided by their teacher Kim Judin. They proposed features like solar panels, wheelchair accessibility, and bilingual signage. Although they did not advance to the finals, the experience was valuable for team bonding. The Mayor’s Cup Finals are scheduled for May 31.
