A modification in the Windows Registry can enable a native NVMe driver, potentially doubling the performance of solid-state drives (SSDs) by enhancing random read and write speeds by up to 80%. This driver is typically reserved for enterprise environments and is not officially available for consumer versions of Windows 11. The modification carries risks, including the possibility of rendering a system unbootable and disrupting features like BitLocker encryption. Early adopters have reported mixed results, with some experiencing significant performance improvements while others face stability issues. The tweak highlights the disparity between consumer and enterprise hardware capabilities and reflects ongoing discussions within the tech community about optimizing SSD performance.

Players in the maze game can choose from various abilities that enhance gameplay, such as improving defense, jumping, or speed. Initially, players start with one ability slot, but can unlock more as they progress. Abilities are earned through gameplay by collecting 'cubits,' which are used to unlock and upgrade them. Players should select abilities based on their playstyle, as choices can impact success in the maze. Additionally, players can acquire a cosmetic Power Shell Pet after achieving VIP status, which serves as a companion but does not provide combat advantages.

The Mounts of Mayhem expansion for Minecraft has launched for both Java and Bedrock Editions, introducing new combat and exploration elements. In the desert biome, players encounter the Camel Husk, a passive mob that serves as transport for hostile riders, including a Husk and a new skeleton variant called the Parched, which thrives in sunlight. Players must defeat both riders to tame the Camel Husk. The Spear weapon has been added, enhancing combat dynamics with damage output increasing with player speed. The Lunge enchantment allows for increased speed during jab attacks. Underwater exploration is enhanced with the Nautilus, a neutral mob that can be tamed with a Pufferfish, providing speed boosts and air supply preservation. Players must defeat its rider, the Zombie Nautilus, to tame it. Horses can now swim in water, and players can craft Netherite Horse Armour by combining Diamond Horse Armour with a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template and an Ingot. Undead horses will appear at night with spear-wielding zombie riders, requiring players to defeat the riders to tame them.

Windows 11 has introduced a fix in a preview build to improve the speed of File Explorer by preloading the application during system boot. Initial tests indicate a noticeable speed improvement, although it doubles RAM usage with only a modest increase in performance. Critics argue that Microsoft's approach appears reactive and lacks a comprehensive strategy for overall performance enhancement. The preloading fix does provide a tangible speed boost with manageable RAM impact, but concerns remain about the broader user experience and future updates.

Microsoft has initiated background preloading of File Explorer to improve accessibility, but this has led to increased RAM usage without significant performance gains. Testing shows that the standard launch of File Explorer uses approximately 35 MB of RAM, while the preloaded version consumes about 67.4 MB due to additional background processes. Despite preloading, File Explorer remains sluggish, with no substantial enhancements in functionality or user experience. Visual tweaks may create an illusion of faster launches, but core performance issues persist, exacerbated by the transition to Windows 11's modern UI elements.

Microsoft is testing a preloading feature for File Explorer in Windows 11, aimed at enhancing its performance by loading it in the background before user interaction. This feature is currently available in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7271 for the Dev and Beta channels. Users can enable it through File Explorer settings, but its public rollout is uncertain as Microsoft is still exploring its viability. Additionally, a known bug allows users to temporarily boost File Explorer's performance by double-tapping Control + F11, though this may disrupt other system functionalities.

Apex Legends Season 27 will feature a significant revamp of the Olympus map, the official integration of the 'supergliding' movement mechanic, and various weapon adjustments. Instead of introducing a new character, three legends—Horizon, Valkyrie, and Rampart—will be reworked due to their low pick rates. Valkyrie will receive reduced cooldowns, increased flight speed, and an upgraded ultimate ability called Super Sonic. Horizon will have a reduced cooldown on her Gravity Lift and an enhanced Black Hole ultimate. Rampart's rework will focus on her defensive capabilities, including walls with roofs for protection and benefits for teammates behind them. Octane will not be reworked this season despite a recent decline in his pick rate. Respawn Entertainment plans to improve transparency regarding their character adjustment decisions. Season 27 is set to launch on November 4.

AMD is introducing a new dedicated hardware block called the Radiance Core in its upcoming Radeon gaming GPU technology, developed in collaboration with Sony. This advancement aims to improve ray tracing performance by relocating ray traversal calculations from CPU and GPU shader cores to dedicated hardware, which is expected to enhance lighting performance in gaming. The Radiance Core allows the CPU to focus on geometry and simulation while the GPU concentrates on shading and lighting, resulting in a significant speed boost. Additionally, AMD is working on other features to further enhance ray tracing performance.

Apex Legends has introduced a mid-season patch for Season 26, featuring the Wild Iron event, which includes gameplay changes such as the Flatline with explosive bullets and the ability to place bombs on downed enemies. Loot crates will now offer more explosive gear, including an EPG grenade launcher, and eight new Wild Cards are available in Replicators. Ash's power has been reduced with an extended dash cooldown from eight to twelve seconds, adjustments to her Arc Snare, and buffs to her Phase Breach. Caustic's gas damage ramps up more slowly, and aim punch from it has been removed. Sparrow has received a nerf with a reduced Tracker Dart duration and decreased effects from the Stinger Bolt. Mad Maggie has received buffs to her Riot Drill and Wrecking Ball, along with technical changes to her speed pads. Seer’s Heartbeat Scanner has been reworked for increased range, and his tactical ability has been adjusted to no longer cancel heals while providing a speed boost. His ultimate ability now allows him to throw his Exhibit up to fifty meters. Weapon adjustments include increased requirements for unlocking hop-ups and a nerf to the Peacekeeper's blast pattern size. The update is set to go live on September 16, with map rotations including E-District, Kings Canyon, and Olympus, and performance enhancements on PC due to a reduction in shader count.
