Android 15’s first major update has arrived

New features are being introduced to Android phones and Pixel devices, including: - Expressive Captions: Descriptive video captions that include annotations for non-verbal moments, such as [gasp] or [applause]. - Lookout App Enhancements: The Lookout app will now feature the Gemini 1.5 model for more detailed audio descriptions of photos and objects for users with low vision or blindness. - Gemini Assistant Expansions: New extensions for Gemini Assistant, including a Spotify extension for music playback and a Utilities extension for performing tasks like making calls and sending emails. - Pixel 9 Features: The call screening feature now includes contextual reply suggestions, and the Screenshots app allows users to save searches made with the Circle to Search feature and suggests search phrases based on saved screenshots. - Updates for Previous Pixel Models: Features like Identity Check for additional security are rolling out for Pixel 6 and newer devices. - Compatibility: The updates are not linked to Android 15 and are supported by various earlier Android versions.

Google’s code shows how its Spotify extension for Gemini might work

Spotify's Gemini extension is designed to enhance the listening experience by providing personalized music recommendations based on users' playlists, playback history, and preferences. Users can type "@Spotify" followed by a song title to play tracks directly through the main Spotify app. Google has introduced a YouTube Music extension for Android and desktop, with plans for more extensions, including one for Google Home. An investigation by Android Authority revealed code in the Google app suggesting a future integration with Spotify, allowing notifications during music sessions. While these features are operational on Android, their availability on desktop remains uncertain. Google is also planning to roll out additional AI extensions for various services, including Google Home and the Phone app.

Spotify could soon get its own Gemini extension, and here’s how it could work

A teardown of the Google app has revealed that a Spotify extension for Gemini, Google's voice assistant, is in development. This extension will allow users to play music and podcasts directly through Gemini, enabling requests for songs from Spotify without launching the app. Currently, YouTube Music is the only integrated service, but this new feature caters to Spotify's large user base. Additionally, there are hints of more Gemini extensions in development, including integrations with Google Home, the Phone app, and various Utilities.
